(Language: English)
This book is a brilliant critique of religion, and lays out rational arguments for atheism. Despite all the furor and false accusations inaccuracy generated by religionists regarding it, "The God Delusion" is a lucid, humane and fascinating work. Among other things, Dawkins dismisses the false definition of atheists as people who claim to have proof of god's nonexistence, pointing out that an atheist is simply a person who does not believe in god, for the simple reason that there is not a shred of evidence to support the claim that a god or gods exist. He then goes on to explain probability in this context. This book is my favorite work of nonfiction.

(Language: English)
An excellent first novel, published when the author was 27 years old. The description of Seattle in the opening section is poetic and accurate. "Easy Money" is swift-paced, with intense action as well as perceptive exploration of character. I've decided to read more of her work, based on how absorbing I found her first nove.

This novel combines characters as multi-dimensional and believable as those in a good literary novel with fascinating speculative elements revolving around self-evolving technology and extra-terrestrial life. It is a science-fiction thriller which probes the human psyche.

(Language: English)
Action-packed and literate, "Hammerjack" is a cut above much cyberpunk fare. There is enough extrapolative science and technology to make it interesting without leaving a non-scientist like me confused. The noirish atmosphere and sharp dialogue make this a very enjoyable read.

(Language: English)
I read my brother Daniel's copy, after it was assigned to him in college twenty years ago. Since then I've reread it three times. The opening can seem a little dry, but the reader is rapidly propelled into a fascinating hall of mirrors. The descriptions of the Greek island of Phraxos, where most of the story takes place, are brilliant and mysterious. One interesting element is that the protagonist is not a nice person, and the novel is written in the first person, so we see everything through his eyes. "The Magus" tackles morality, religion, the nature of reality, history, sex, and the labyrinth of human experience. I usually don't read thick literary novels, preferring well-written SF or mysteries, but this novel has elements of both and is one of the most absorbing novels I've ever read.
