Did you know there's four different southern dialects in this book, one of which is completely extinct? It never ceases to amaze me how quickly our brains pick up the dialect and suddenly we discover we're talking like an African American slave from 150 years ago in our minds.....*perfectly*. Through the eyes of an adventurous little boy, this is the most honest snap-shot you're ever going to find, into late 19th century life in the Southern States. We've all seen the movies, we've all heard the tales, but none of them do the book justice. You have to read it.

Every single thing this man has every written is Gold. From Trickie Woo's flop bottom to the old farmer who never fixed the rickety gates, Herriot manages to take you through decades of vet science in a humourous, light hearted way. You will be fully entertained as he takes you from the days of purple smoke, through to the discovery of penicillin and onto the new age we live in today. This book is only the beginning of many wonderful stories to come.

Excellent eye-view into the twisted, hedonistic rock world of the eighties Metal train. While people like us were worshipping the ground they walked on, wishing to be like them or with them, Nikki was hiding in a closet, sitting amongst heroine packets and needles, in delusional fear for his life.
Who knew?
It's the most honest, dirty account of addiction I've ever seen. He doesn't hide anything. He lays himself, his band-mates, managers and friends out there for all to see with unabridged diary accounts from the eighties. Then, everyone else gets to opinionate on him, and it's usually not so nice. It's brutally honest. His "in the moment" stories are fascinating to those of us who always wondered what it was really like when the lights went off. His future outlook of those same passages exposes his true self. Humourous, tragic, eye-opening, and just a fantastic read. It's Rock and Roll wrapped in hard cover and words scream from the pages with electric prose and random rantings. It's just Motley.

Not as good as Cocoa puffs. It concentrated a little to much on sports for my taste, however it's still quite engaging, and humourous. I love the modern outlook Klosterman presents, which suits our generation.

It's a great read and full of laughs. He reminds me of a rebellious, take no prisoners version of Malcolm Gladwell. Concerning Pop culture today, he's right on the mark.

I really enjoyed this book. His journey was full of adventure, his goal was far fetched and he acheived it.
Russia seemed like hell, the way he described it.

If there's any advice I can give any reader who dives into the Lord of the Rings series it's this:
READ THE HOBBIT FIRST!!! I'm always amazed and a little stunned when people tell me they read the Lord series and not the Hobbit. It's like they read a book without reading the first chapter. The Hobbit is the first chapter. How can you cite Lord of the Rings without knowning about Smog the Dragon? It introduces you to the Ring. It introduces you to Gollum. It introduces you to the Hobbit world, to the Wizard and pretty well everything and anything which has any importance in the series. If you read the series, you must read the Hobbit.

Harry Potter meets the West Wing. It has everything wrapped up into a neat and tidy little explanation of how the fantasy of mysticism and the realities of politics meld into one. If this stuff really has any basis, our forefathers were flakes. One thing which set me off was the introduction. It played out like the next Top 40 BlockBuster Hollywood hit and it seemed a little predictable. Movie rights anyone? It's obvious he wrote the book with the future movie in mind. Besides that, it's a good read. It's very weird and interesting.

didn't like itit was okliked itloved itit was amazing
It amazed me how an Englishman can show up at an Aboriginal community starving, clothes in tatters, diseased and in many cases infested with maggots, only to write about their superiority over said Aboriginals who live there and suffer none of their affflictions. Misplaced Arrogance anyone? I loved this book. There really was an Indiana Jones! His name was Col. Fawcett, and his nemesis was a wealthy man named Dr Rice. They trudged into the deepest depths of the jungle. As Dr. Rice had the money to finance the latest and greatest gadgets, he couldn't match Col. Fawcetts Tenacity, infallibility and chameleon like ability to become his surroundings. Fawcett went deeper into the Amazon than anyone, and got closer to the tribes than anyone before in his Obsessive Quest for the legendary Lost city of El Dorado.
I couldn't put it down. It's a true story which is truly made for Hollywood, as these adventurers tackle the most Inhabitable place on earth...the Amazon.

It's a great book. I've already learned alot, and it's so interesting I can't put it down. The first chapter is about Canadian hockey, and discusses Bc hockey in particular. Did you know that most famous hockey players were born in the winter months? The answer behind this phenomenon lies in the cut-off dates and the development of the child. Interesting. See what rates success.

It's a good read in a traumatizing way. All the oppression of women wrapped up into one book and a very horrifying plot. Like 1984, there's creepy predictions and symbolism all over the place with the constant reminder that our freedom is prescious and easily lost.

How can you argue if you don't know what it's against? No seriously, though. It's a good read once you get past the "ands" the "thee's" and the "thou's".Full of death, tragedy, love, sweet and tender moments....it's what Hollywood is made of.Oh, and it all says something deep and meaningful. Who cares if you're a believer or not? I suggest you Read it anyway. It's perfect fodder for the Jo-Ho's when they show up at your door. Your knowledge will freak them out and they'll run. It's so fun.

See how the movie industry can butcher a book? The book was so much darker, better and in depth than the movie it was a crime. I've hated Barbara Streisand ever since. The book concentrates more on the past and the sister, and the reason she's insane is FAR WORSE than the movie portrays. I thought it was a good movie until I read the book. The book is way better than the movie.

A classic fav. from the days of old. Poor, cast-aside Jane finds herself in the famous "red room",thrust into an eccentric home, a horrible mansion full of secrets. The first time I read it I was 11. It was my graduation from Anne of Green Gables into deeper, more sinister plots. This book turned me into an all out reading junkie. Those were my "classic" years.

Short and sweet. Says alot in 70 some pages and pretty well changed my outlook on a few things. An impossible but beautiful concept. Utopia and distopia and all that crap......And don't forget about Marx's dialectic.

The title intrigued me to be honest. I was surprised by how sensitive and deep it was. A man and his disabled son goes on a journey by bike with a friend. One likes to have his bike fixed while the other prefers to fix the bike himself. For him it's a "Zen". A peek into the minds of mechanics......
