(Language: English)
Quite possibly the best book I have ever read or ever will read! The insight of Tozer and our pursuit of God is amazing and brought me to tears more than once while I read this book. I recommend this book to anyone who is in need of understanding their purpose in life. It will become abundantly clear as you read this incredible book.

A Reader posted a review at 2010-01-27 12:21:59 for The Case for Christ: A Journalist's Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus (6 Pack).
(Language: English)
In my nursing experience over the last 23 years I have seen time and time again people make a decision about their care without adequate knowledge of the situation. Let's just say the ugly "i" word, ignorance. I have seen people refuse to have tubes placed, refuse medications, refuse surgeries or even blood transfusions based on ignorance. It literally, in some cases, meant the difference between life and death. Sad, but true. People have based these decisions on what they have heard from other people or little bits and pieces of information they had gotten through the years but many never bothered to dig for the information for themselves. They are stuck in their particular beliefs about some treatment. When they start asking questions from professionals, people that have spent their life working with such diseases, surgeries or treatments, then they are finally equipped to make an intelligent decision about their care. That is when I have finally seen people at peace with their decisions. They can be confident that they are doing what is right for themselves. As I finished the book The Case For Christ by Lee Strobel this past week, I started thinking about how many people make a decision about Christ based on ignorance. Their decision to believe or not believe might be based on the little they have heard from others through the years, but they never have dug deeper to find the answers to the questions of their own heart. And let's face it; this is the decision that will be the difference between life and death. I wish I could tell you that this is an easy and fun read but it isn't. But neither is a book about cancer. But the knowledge that you acquire by reading it will help you make an intelligent decision about your faith in Christ Jesus. If you have ever found yourself sitting on the fence with your faith in Jesus, if there is somewhere deep in you that has questioned whether He really is the son of God, that He really died a horrible, dishonorable death and then rose from the dead, than you NEED to read this book. Lee takes a journey of a skeptic. He asks all the questions of someone who is having a hard time devouring the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. He interviews a variety of experts in their field of study including Theologians, Historians, Psychologists, Archeologists, and all of them having more credentials behind their names then I could count. These individuals have spent their life devoted to studying their field of interest. Lee has done all the digging and research and lays it out before you to take it, or leave it, as you decide. I won't tell you everything Lee discovered in the book but I will tell you that after completing this book his life career changed drastically. Let's just say he made his decision with wisdom, not ignorance. I wonder if you are willing to dig deeper into the matter of Jesus. Are you willing to make an intelligent decision about whether to believe or not believe? Are you sure about your decision? Would you bet your life on it? Bottom line, you are making the decision of a lifetime, a decision for eternity. Will you listen to advice from others or will you look to the evidence before you? Ignorance is not bliss! Actually, ignorance is death and wisdom can set you free! May today be a day filled with intelligent decisions! |
A Reader posted a review at 2009-11-08 01:39:35 for RADICAL RELIANCE.
(Language: English)
This is an eye opening book that is fabulous. I found myself underlining things and scribbling in the margins. This book addresses that as we become more and more self reliant, (believing that we have all that we need in this world which really is material)it makes us unable to see our need for God in our lives. So we end up being wealthy in material stuff and lacking in spiritual wealth. With this attitude, we are missing out on the joy that a relationship with God can bring in our lives. So many people believe religion is oppressive and in some cases it is...when it is religion and not a relationship! We should focus on having a relationship with God which ultimately brings joy, freedom to be what we were designed to be, and overwhelming love. People all over the world are starved for love and a feeling of being connected...maybe part of that is a deep need to connect with God! I really would recommend the book. Take a look!

(Language: English)
I can't believe I haven't gotten this review written because I finished the book about a week ago! This book should come with a warning "May make you stay up til all hours of the night reading!" What a wonderful book. I just cannot say enough good things about it. A lovely story about a little girl living in hell on earth and how one man answers God's call to save her. I won't say any more for fear that I would give too much away. But I will say this is a must read! Wish I was you and could be experiencing it for the first time all over again! Enjoy!

A Reader posted a review at 2009-07-08 12:43:09 for Quaker Summer (Women of Faith Fiction) (2007 Novel of the Year).
(Language: English)
This book was definately a struggle to read in the beginning. But I just knew that if it was named Women of Faith 2007 fiction book of the year there had to be something there worth reading. So I continued and found once again that God is bigger than I ever imagined. He has the ability to even lead you to the right book at the right time. I am in a small group that is reading the Purpose Driven Life and this book correlates with that perfectly. This story is worth the effort to get through the boring beginning. It lead me to question my own life and what I am doing with it. Giving your time is your greatest way to share your love. Sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone to really find who God designed us to be! I love fictional christian books that have the main character be so real. Not perfect, not so sure of her faith or purpose but her journey to find it. If you at all find yourself wondering the same thing about your life, this is worth reading. Now...the only question is...What to read next! =)

A Reader posted a review at 2009-05-01 12:23:16 for Kiss.
(Language: English)
I was really disappointed in this book. It started out so good but it was like the author lost interest and focus as the book moved on. I really thought this Christian author would have added more about faith in the trials of our lives but there was only a few sentences throughout the book about it and then some in the last chapter as if that was an afterthought of the author. I had to put this book down and read something else in the middle of it. I only finished it because the beginning did get my attention. There are too many other good books out there to waste your time on this one. This is the first book I have read by Ted Dekker and apparently he is a best-selling author but it will take a lot of boredom for me to pick up another one of his books.

A Reader posted a review at 2009-02-25 11:25:17 for THREE BOOKS IN ONE AND THE ANGELS WERE SILENT-SIX HOURS ONE FRIDAY-NO WONDER THEY CALL HIM THE SAVIOR.
(Language: English)
I have now finished all three of these books and I couldn't possibly say enough good things about all of them! Max Lucado is almost poetic in his writtings. This turned out to be such a wonderful set of books to read through the lenten season. If you are looking to deepen your faith and truly understand the gift that was given to us that Friday you should take a look at these books. If you are looking for a savior...this might help you realize that you already have one!I have just completed the first book "No Wonder They Call Him the Savior" in this three book collection. I absolutely loved this book. Max is almost poetic in his writting. He makes you look at the cross more closely and see the parts of scripture that we may have skipped over. He relates everything to your life now and it will not leave you unchanged! I am just getting into the second book "Six hours one Friday" and have already found something to hang on to forever. When facing the storms in our lives, some of them may be hurricanes an old sailors advice "Anchor deep, say a prayer and hold on. And don't be surprised if someone walks across the water to give you a hand." Powerful words for me! Makes you think...where and what are your anchors? |
A Reader posted a review at 2009-01-22 07:57:27 for The Christmas Sweater.
(Language: English)
I finished this book last night and as I read the last few chapters I felt my heart swell with emotion. Like the Grinch who stole Christmas I feel like my heart is bit bigger today. What a beautiful story that speaks to the heart. It is ironic that I should find myself reading the book of Job this week for my confirmation group that I lead on Wed. nights. The two go together like peanutbutter and jelly. I should never underestimate God's ability to get His point across! This book leaves you thinking about what really matters in life. The meaning of life is not "he who has the most toys wins" but rather the foundation that you build that life. I know I want my foundation to be upon my rock, Jesus. So that when storms come in and crumble my life around me I will have the foundation of faith left to rebuild upon and God there to help me through the storm. I really would recommend this story to anyone. It is not preachy or too religious so do not think that. It is just a wonderful story in the same league with " The five people you meet in Heaven". Pick this book off the shelf and settle down for a while. You won't be disappointed. |
A Reader posted a review at 2009-01-13 07:29:14 for So You Don't Want To Go To Church Anymore?.
(Language: English)
This is a good book but it gets long. It is not a page turner by any means. It does have some interesting thoughts about church and organized religion. Though I am not against church, I do think we all need to focus on our relationship with God as a daily thing. It's not about going to church every Sunday and then not giving another thought about God until the next Sunday. This book pushes that thought a bit further stating that sometimes people get devoted to the church instead of Christ which goofs people up and hinders their real relationship with God. This would be an interesting book for a book club that wants to discuss and debate about these topics. But unless you are really interested in these issues, I would not bother with this book. There is too many other great things out there to read.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-12-09 01:26:58 for Praying God's Word: Breaking Free from Spiritual Strongholds.
(Language: English)
Funny that I originally bought this book for someone else. I guess it was easier for me to see someone elses strongholds then it was my own. Thankfully, I didn't give it to the person I had intended it for because it would not have been right for them. But instead it has turned into one of my favorite books and something I use in my prayer life. I think anyone wanting a deeper relationship with God should take a look at this book. Beth Moore has such great insight into how incredibly human we are, and yet God loves us anyway!

A Reader posted a review at 2008-11-20 03:35:32 for The Shack.
(Language: English)
When you read this book (as you should) don't spend time wondering if it is true or not, instead look for the truth within it! This book should come with a warning..."may change the way you view things" It didn't change the way I view God, but rather confirmed it! If you have gone through rough times in life or lost a loved one unexpectantly or if you never could figure out why things happen to people...then you need to read this! It is not like a self help book, which I hate, but rather a way to deepen your faith and trust in God. That is a WAY better way to improve yourself then some stupid self help book! If you read this go at it with an open mind or better yet an open heart! You will discover or confirm that God is very fond of you! And really, there is nothing better than that!
