This book is amazing! I could hardly put it down; and if you decide to read it... get ready and embrace yourself. Filled with harsh realities based on how certain families live in Afghanistan, this book will either make you a feminist or infuriate you with frustration. The author is a great storyteller; I like his writing style, his metaphors, use of language and the way he tells this story. The book had me on the edge of my seat most of the time and makes you go through a million different emotions, but mainly frustration. You feel for the main characters, Laila and Mariam, two women that are forced into marriage and cannot escape... Great read that I would highly recommend, however, if you do not like sad stories then you might want to pass up on this one.

Good read that I would recommend to anyone who is familiar with the south of France and its regional history. I enjoyed the fact that the author used some phrases in Occitan, which is a regional language of France that I have actually studied at my university here in Montpellier. I cannot decide if I like the author's style, but she did a good job of getting me to react to the book, especially towards the end of the story. There were times I was sad for the martyrs, upset about injustice and persecution, craved revenge against the bad guys and was happy when the good guys were doing well.

(Language: English)
Fun read and great escape. It's always nice to have a fantasy read to get away from reality every once in a while. J.K. Rowling also does a great job to keep readers enticed and has an amazing imagination that keeps drawing you into the story until the book is finished and you are waiting for more. The Harry Potter books were always hard to put down, I definitely read right through them and wouldn't mind reading through them again!

Great book with a great story, this was a book that I had a hard time putting down. Highly recommend to anyone, as long as they don't mind somewhat of a sad plot.

(Language: English)
Great book! I really enjoyed the story and seeing how far the author could stretch his vocabulary. The story involves banishing certain letters from the English alphabet, and as the chapters progress, the more and more letters disappear therefore requiring the author to use a more creative vocabulary! Fun read that I high recommend for some easy leisure reading.

Funny book, but probably best appreciated by those who have been to France and lived what the author has been through. Since I have been living in France for a while, and have suffered all of the same things that French administration puts you through, I could relate to the story. It had me laughing out loud at times! If you plan to study abroad in France and would like a taste of what you are about to get into, then this might be an interesting read for you; however you will probably enjoy it more after your year abroad. Great book that a good humored approach to living abroad!
