This is the third R.J Ellroy novel I have read and like A Simple Act of Violence, I found this book to be not that great. Compared to A Quiet Belief in Angels this is mediocre. The ending felt tacked on to make it end on a happy note. Another way to explain this book is if the Lifetime channel tried to make a Cormac Mccarthy tv movie. I'll still check out R.J's work so until next time...

Had a hard time getting through this one. These stories are from the 1930's and they havent aged well. Pick this up if you are into owning all the original Conan stories. I say skip if you are looking for a good read..

After starting to read this I wanted to go and buy the rest of his Bernie Gunther novels. He is now one of my favorite authors. He is up there with James Ellroy and Cormac Mccarthy. Can't wait to read the next novel in the series.

Everytime I read a Ian Esslemont book I always say its better than the last. This novel is the same. It is the best book he has written and ties up loose ends with Darujistan. Nice!!

Another great novel by Dennis Lehane. Not as good as The Given Day but can't wait to see what the next book is like. He recently said in an interview his next will be about WWII and the Mafia for the Coughlin Saga. Can't wait...

This was my third Guy Gavriel Kay novel to read. It is better than A Song for Arbonne but Tigana is still his masterpiece...that said this comes pretty close. I think it could of been a better ending if he left it open ended without knowing what happens right at the end. It would of been a classic.

Really good book. Reminded me of Apocalypse now for some reason. You can also see how Glenn Cook influenced Steven Erickson from reading this. Good stuff

Wow!! Even Worse than the first one. The writing is horrible and annoying. The dialogue is extremly bad and you dont even care what happens. I almost gave up reading from this mess. The only reason i read this is because I bought Feed and this off of Amazon without reading any of them. I'll never find out what happens in the final novel because there is no way I'm wasting more money on these horrible novels. I'm on to reading something better by an actual talented author instead of this which reads like something a high school kid wrote for creative writing class. BEWARE. Dont read these novels!!!

Really Dark and gory entry in the Matthew Corbett series. Pretty decent read but I didnt like it as much as the 1st and 2nd novel.

Read this novel right after Tigana. The synopsis on the back made it sound exactly like Tigana so i wasnt expecting much. It was totally different and a great read. Not as good as Tigana but pretty close. Nice summer read while drinking a beer outside.

This novel concludes everything so I guess the next book must be a new story arc. Had a great ending but might wait a bit to read the next..

So far this is the best book in the series. It's not George R.R Martin or Steven Erikson but it is still decent. Good for a light read.

After the lackluster 4th novel George R.R Martin returns with a great followup. The only complaint I have with this book is that even though its about 1000 pages nothing really happens until the last quarter of the novel. His first 3 novels in the series had precise plot pacing and it seems that these last 2 novels dont really know where its going. Its still an awesome book and now I have to wait till 2014 or 2015 to find out what happens.

I read this when it first came out back in 2005 and was dissapointed when I found out it only covered minor characters and a a couple Major. After reading it 7 years later its not as bad as I thought. It will be remembered as being the worst of the series but I enjoyed the Brienne, Jamie and Cersei chapters. Hopefully the 5th book is better then this one.

(Language: English)
Rereading the series before starting the 5th book. Read this book 12 years ago when it first came out and forgot parts of it. This entry is the best of the whole series (that I've read). It has about 3 novels worth of storyline in one and crazy plot twists. Major characters get killed off all through the book and plotlines are concluded and expanded upon.

Suprised that it was better than the first which was not that great. A decent series but not anywhere as good as George R.R Martin or Steven Erikson.

Worst book I read this year. Cheesy Dialogue and retarded plot. Bought the 2nd one before reading this one. Big mistake

A Reader posted a review at 2011-12-02 02:16:08 for Folly and Glory: A Novel (The Berrybender Narratives).

A mediocre series with some decent moments. The ending was so anticlimatic and dissapointing. Thought this would be like Lonesome Dove. Skip this unless you have nothing else to read.

The series finale to an Amazing series. Satisfying conclusion that wraps up most of the storylines. Steven Erikson is the best Fantasy writer. Even better than George R.R Martin.
