Okay...here's the thing. I still don't prefer Anton Gorodetsky as the superhero. He's still not cool enough in my eyes :pBut one thing I got to say about this book. YOU HAVE TO READ IT. I RECOMMEND IT STRONGLY. Yes, its a fictional book. Yes its the fourth book. But damn how it ends with a bang. The kind of book that can truly give you a mind orgasm. And no I do not mean it in the figurative sense, but the literal one. It surely ends with a bang for me. BRILLIANT. Purely a satisfying read. It is so strange that the book makes you think, makes you wonder on the complication of the world, of humans, of living beings. Of how intricately connected and woven together our fates are, on how one thing always affects another. |

It convinced me to get closer to God. I can tell u that much.I'm kinda in the opinion that you should experience the book. Because for the same occurrence, each individual absorb and experience his/her own unique portrayal. Its a good book. At least I'm grateful that I've read it. A unique book indeed. |

(Language: English)
Its quite similar to Umberto Eco's Baudolino. Though Baudolino is far richer and imaginative, this one is quite earth shattering in forwarding the notion that the first humans are females (though the concept ain't new). Its more of how Lessing tells her story, not the content of the story that got me wandering, enliven my imagination. Its one simple, but good and curious book. Read it, it could leave you with a weird curious feeling. |

Certainly one of the best love story I ever read. I cried when Ollie cried on his father's arms. Direct, moving and could touch your very soul. An example of a work of true genius. Damn simple but so darn strong as a book. |

I am not a cry baby. I did not cry in movies that most people did cry.But somehow this book just do the trick. My tears flowed generously. I think every one who ever experienced a truly devastating heart break, can feel that this book describe in precision of those moments. Though I still cannot stand the detailed description of how beautiful the Cullens are. |

The book has the same idea as Tuesdays with Morrie, though not as good nor as strong. But I still like the book. Its direct, its simple, its honest. Randy is self praising, not eaxctly humble, but he admits it. I love the fact that the man write a book. I love his effort in trying to show his kids how much he loves them. The book is light. The book is funny. It gives simple direct example from the dying man himself of things that he wanted to teach others. Of things he wanted others to remember or consider important. One important lesson in my eyes. Can we all not wait before our dying day...to be not stingy of our knowledge, of our experience...?? Because...we cannot take whatever it is that we attain on our living life to the next life. Keeping everything to ourselves would only induce a narrow minded society who does not understand the importance of sharing. On how both the one sharing the knowledge and the one receiving the knowdlege is benefiting in the transfer of knowledge. Nothing that has ever been given sincerely is lost. Its not lost. Never lost. It will only grow. And man....this is the time when growth, no matter how small....is extremely crucial. |

(Language: English)
This book is suggested to me by a writer friend. I disliked it at first.I cannot grasp the untimely and seemingly out of place background. The seemingly forced situation. But that said friend urged me to give the book a chance. So I gave it a chance, I read it during my leave. And he was right. I love the book. Not loving the book with vibrant romanticism like a like some books. I love it with nagging realization, as I proceed in reading it....how much it symbolizes the same time it conceals them. Darn the book is great...the book spoke clearly regarding my hesitance towards humanity in itself, regarding demoralization, degradation in values and system. My hesitance to be married and have a child myself. It tries to speak out what most of us do not dare to speak out....that the basis of society, should depend on the ethical nature of individual and NOT on any political system however logical or respectable it seems. Jeez...there u get it....the words I've been looking for all this long. THE SHAPE OF A SOCIETY MUST DEPEND ON THE ETHICAL NATURE OF THE INDIVIDUAL AND NOT ON ANY POLITICAL SYSTEM HOWEVER APPARENTLY LOGICAL OR RESPECTABLE. I think WE ALL as a society MUST STOP BEING IGNORANT...must analyze carefully of things that we are told to do....and contest things that we consider not right based on sound & logical judgment. We all have the responsibility to shape our society. All...each and every one of us that is. |

Not a fan. Unlike in King's novels, his error in English is disturbing. The story is strong and gripping, but lacking some specific seasoning. And I hate the end. So ambiguous. So anti-climactic. But overall, its quite a good book. For a person on the go, this might be a good choice. Light, not so much content so it can be read by a wandering mind. |

Ok....I am not a fan of popular books or popular novels. And this one is not an exception. I got this one as a birthday present from a friend. But jeez....I have to tell you one thing for sure. Stephen King is one STRONG writer. At least this one specific book give me one strong impact and quite an impression. It gives me the *DANG*....!! And hell....it creeps me while I am awake...and frighten my night with bad dreams..... A writer with one hell of a strong impact. So if you're looking for a light reading and popular novels...I think a Stephen King would never fails you. Hasta la vistaa... :p |

Like all other Dostoevsky's novels this one is also rich. The character is rich, the conflict is rich, the psychological aspect is rich.At the moment of writing this review, I cannot recall any writer who is as successful as him in describing in details, people, characters, problems, human minds, human tendencies, human conflicts. He is definitely one of my favorite writer. Not as heavy as Hesse, but still quite heavy. And yeah...all of his books and the characters that I have read so far are all dark and depressed. If you need a light book....I recommend, do not read Dostoevsky. But if you're looking for a great book which will leave u a lasting impression. Read all of his :p |
A Reader posted a review at 2008-12-16 02:51:39 for Candide (Barnes & Noble Classics Series).
(Language: English)
I don't think I ever find or read a better satire than Francois-Marie Arouet or Voltaire. But then, his life must be pretty darn rough that he could write such a thing. All things said...I think Candide is certainly a classic that anyone thinks that he has a taste for good books should read it. One helluva masterpiece. |
A Reader posted a review at 2008-12-08 11:38:31 for Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1).
(Language: English)
OK. This book is not one of my fave. And I am not saying this because I am ashamed of acknowledging that fact, but simply because its true. To give the book some credit....it is as addictive as Harry Potter series. But I just cannot stand the description of pages over pages on how extremely beautiful and arousing the Cullens are. Its too Harlequiny for my taste. Though not as blatant and dark as any of Henry Miller's. But the film SUX. I mean...quite sux to the max. Completely ruin my imagination. Stupid casting director. Especially my imagination on how beautiful the cullens are. Its a strong book, but not a good one. |
A Reader posted a review at 2008-11-04 02:20:32 for Siddharta: Eine indische Dichtung.
(Language: English)
It is a refined journey in discovering the self. The book will compel you without fail to look within yourself. To examine what you've done, what you've been doing, and what will you do.I think this book is in one breath with de Beauvoir's Ethics of Ambiguity...in which Hesse urges us...not to deny or dispel our ambiguity....but to embrace it...to know it, understand it and make it whole. Conquering the self is impossible without complete knowledge of the self. |
A Reader posted a review at 2008-11-04 02:11:16 for Joseph Heller's "Catch-22": Notes (Monarch Notes).
(Language: English)
Catch-22 has its background around WW II. It tells the irony of life, the working of things & ranks - specifically, how people are so often misuse them. The book is superb, not only because it gives clear depiction of how often human beings are trapped in crazy situations, or how unfair sometimes life can be. But the fact that though the background of the story revolves around WW II, it is still so highly relevant today...is the sole reason by this book....would not only such a winning writing...but would be one of those rare books that would surely be timeless. |
A Reader posted a review at 2008-04-08 04:27:56 for Sense & Sensibility.
(Language: English)
What I love most about the book is not its story, but the eloquence of it being written. I love Jane Austen Style in writing it. Its flow, its wording. I haven't read any other title by her...but this one surely imprint in me her superior style and elegance in writing. What I also notice is her wit in forwarding so detailed a story, so detailed a description in a book so compact. She has the ability of being thoroughly detailed yet without being deviant and wandering too much. The ability of saying much by only writing what is most necessary. I believe it is art in itself. But frankly, I'm kinda hoping that I will find something of a different nature in her other titles, cause this one is rather has too much of femininity for my taste.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-01-12 02:46:16 for The Book Thief.
(Language: English)
A book narrated by death. A detached observer who sees the best and the worst in people. The beauty and ugliness of human thoughts and behavior. Who in the world could fully understood the motives behind every action of human behavior...?? Or the forming of their thoughts...?? Regardless whether its a good thought or a bad one. The man itself surely not. God...?? the human behavior freaks Her out, distresses Her. Death only able to ponder though He is able to see EVERYTHING. Do knowledge can really help us out...?? Do knowing the real truth is the answer of all problems...?? Jeez...the way I see it...we just don't know. We are left in the dark. BUT AT THE VERY LEAST...WE ALL CAN STILL FEEL. AND I THINK IT IS ONE OF LIFE GREATEST GIFT. THOUGH SOMETIMES IN OUR LOWEST MOMENTS WE LONG FOR THE NUMBNESS TO EASE OUR PAIN. STILL I PERSIST....THE ABILITY TO FEEL...I BELIEVE....IS ONE OF THE BEST REASON TO BE ALIVE... Without the ability to feel....how could anyone fulfill the emptiness inside...?? |
A Reader posted a review at 2008-01-12 02:30:28 for House of Glass (Buru Quartet).
(Language: English)
I love this fourth book. Its a book of irony, and what can I say...I am a lover of irony.Men and their weaknesses. They always break your heart. BUT WHAT IS IT EXACTLY U CAN DO...?? WHAT IS THE BEST THING U CAN DO...?? WHAT IS THE BEST SOLUTION....??? WHERE DO REAL HAPPINESS LIES....??? Is it MONEY...?? well, not according this book. Is it the fulfillment of LUST...?? also untrue. How about POWER OR POSITION...?? ain't that either. The constant pursue of ideals and to be true to your heart...?? its not even that according to this book. SO WHERE DO REAL HAPPINESS LIES...?? CAN WE TRULY REACH IT...?? FEEL IT...?? GRAB IT...?? KEEP IT...??? My personal answer is: WE CAN. But I cannot give u my recipe for happiness. Not that I am being stingy and not willing to share it. I am just as clueless as all of u in the matter of giving the exact portion of everything. I think each and every one of us has to find our own key to our own personal and individual happiness. I wish you all luck & that God would bless us all. Embrace life wholeheartedly :)) |
