If there is such a thing as a bad Dr. Seuss book, I've never heard of it. His books are timeless, in more ways than one, because they are good for children and adults, this decade, and in all the other decades I've personally experienced, and they will be just as good for whatever decades are remaining.

Hard not to love a book that makes you feel sorry for that poor victim: the young man who killed someone Takes some writing to do that!

Nathaniel Hawthorne's writing is a bit too male, presumptively male, in some respects; but, the story really is quite good

More cussy than I generally prefer, but, very entertaining, sweetly romantic, poignant, frustrating .. amazing!

When asked one of those silly game questions, as to if I could only take three books with me to a deserted island that I'd have to be on for the rest of my life, which ones would I take, I said the Holy Scriptures, the big black book that is all four of the Hitchhiker's Guide Trilogy Books (before the fifth one came out) and Where The Wild Things AreIt's a nice book if taken quite literally, it's a lovely book if taken metaphorically, and it's bloody astounding and rather erotic if taken poetically. So, you know, don't read your kids poetry on the same day as this book. Let them sort that out for themselves, later in life lol |

Now that I've reread all 4 books of the trilogy, more times than I have bothered to keep track of, I'm starting to notice little things that could have been better written. However, I started reading these when I was, what? Maybe 13, maybe 15 and I'm now 41! If it takes that long to get annoyed by the mistakes in a book, then it's a book worth a good looking into by everyone. The fifth book of the trilogy, I only read twice. It was a bit more depressing. I cannot view these as separate pieces of literature, though. |

Please parents: stop confusing this with cutesy little children's stories! Though, I think it would not hurt a child to read the book, as children may as well learn that bad things happen to good animals and people, and to watch out for Hitleresque individuals, etc. It's really the movie that I think they could do without! Video City puts it in the Family Movies section, but, I don't think most parents want their 4 year olds experiencing the delights of a chopped off head in the refrigerator, even if it is just the head of a talking pig All that aside, this is a fantastic book, and yes, it does have it's funny, ironic moments; I don't care what anyone says! |

The thing that stops me from putting that I full on love this book is that the ending is a bit too melodramatic for me, and it clashes with the reasoned clarity of the whole. It was the word "forever" that through it off for me. |

One of the best books I've ever read, at any age I've read it, and I have read it repeatedly. The characters are very engaging, and it has much to say on childhood, parenting, and social responsibility. I'd recommend this book to anyone and everyone. |

The editing lacks something, but, I have to say the story has been entertaining, a good laugh was had by all who've read it thus far, and I certainly do look forward to more writing from this author! (grin) |
