(Language: English)
The story of two boys, fiercely trained to become entertainers in old China. Their experiences of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse is hard to move past. It truly carries over into their adulthood and the war.

(Language: English)
A novel about old China. It's the story about concubines and their master. The competitive nature behind the lives of all the women is frightening at times.

(Language: English)
Whenever I need a reminder about the deeper meaning in life, I draw a hot bath and read a few passages from the Tao.

In this YA novel a young girl tells her best friend that she's being abused, and he manages to save her. That doesn't happen very often.

A Reader posted a review at 2007-11-11 08:50:53 for Moby-Dick.
(Language: English)
This is a novel that so many people discount because of its length but I read it in one day for a class, and not because I was short on time.

(Language: English)
Something that I remember about this story is the image of Martin washing the laundry.

A Reader posted a review at 2007-10-11 08:38:47 for The Biggest Secret: The Book That Will Change the World.
(Language: English)
this book goes hand in hand with "The Truth Shall Set You Free" because it gets down to the nitty gritty with the reality of our government as well as Britain's. The information in this book will open your eyes to things going on beneath the surface, UNLESS your eyes are already closed and you refuse to open them.

(Language: English)
This book gave me all the information I needed to confirm what I already believed about our government, the skulls, and the Bohemian Grove in California. If you do some research, you'll find exactly what I'm talking about. Use google Earth to find the owl and other symbols of the freemasons. It 's a perfect way to see reality.

A Reader posted a review at 2007-09-23 08:45:21 for St. Mawr & The Man Who Died.
(Language: English)
This is about one of the most interesting relationships between a man and a woman. A stablehand and a wealthy mistress. This is a novel that made a dent in my collection. It's something I always mention when asked what I've read. That and Heart of Darkness.

A Reader posted a review at 2007-09-23 08:41:56 for The Tragedy of Macbeth.
(Language: English)
This is one of my favorite plays to teach seniors in high school. Even if students are low level readers (can be as low as 7th grade as a 12th grader) If it's taught well, all students can connect with the characters and the language. Try having them rotate in groups of six or eight and stand in a circle. Use a ball. Each time a student catches a ball they must recite a pivitol, pre chosen line from the play. They love it. Have them choose a main character and make a collage of that persons characteristics and personal attributes. Then have them work in small groups to put together a scene from the play (pre-selected) to perform for the class. Anyway, that's what I think about when I read this play again, teaching it.

A Reader posted a review at 2007-09-05 06:02:49 for Shakespeare Sonnets (Pelican Shakespeare (Prebound)).
(Language: English)
Beautiful and so expertly crafted. My favorite sonnets are #53-What is your substance, whereof are you made..., #90-Then hate me when thou wilt; if ever, now;..., #131-Thou art as tyrannous, so thou art,..., #116-Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments;...

A Reader posted a review at 2007-09-05 05:45:07 for U2 by U2.
(Language: English)
This is one of the most amazing biography's written by a band. Not only is there a collective voice, they have included each of their separate voices when writing about particular events, or memories. When they write about memories etc. you can see each of their points of view on what occurred, and on each other. They know each other well enough to trust each other in writing in such a personal style. It's very well done.

I love Tolkien and have read anything from medical books to comic books. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I just could not get through this.
