This was an amazing book with a really unique concept. It's a basic love story told through the seperate eyes of Henry and Claire. Henry time travels so we see him spending time with Claire as a child right through to her 82nd year. The story is, at first, hard to fathom and it takes some concentration but once you let yourself go with it it's a beautiful and moving book. There are a lot of twists and turns relating to the people around them, their relatives and their inner circle that really make this book impossible to put down. I have marked this down only because it's slightly slow in places. This is a book I will read again and get more from each time I read it.

This was a really interesting true story written in two parts. The first part was the authors own story and in it she explored how she fell so completely for a man, Tim, who was mentally abusing her and manipulating her every move. The second part of the book was Tim's own story which attempted to put the facts of his crime before you so you could make your own judgement. I found the first part of the book fascinating and well written, full of truth and, in parts, very hard to read. The second half I found a little weak, it didn't answer all the questions it alluded to and left me wanting more information. Unfortunately I read the `blurb' so I know what was coming, I wish I hadn't as the truth about Tim would have been all the more shocking. All in all a really emotional read that will have you searching the names involved on the internet to find out more.

This is a fascinating, beautifully written book. It's the story of four characters. Cate , a teenager snatched when she was 3; Les, the man who abducted her and raised her as his own and her shell shocked parents who never thought they'd see her again. The story really makes you think as the parents individual reactions are not what you would nessecarily expect and a grudging empathy for the abductor slowly forms. The story raises questions on genetics, nurture, hope and the limits of human forgiveness. On the down side this story moves quite slowly at first, the character of the father is intriging and I would have liked more of him and finally I found the believability of the story stretched slightly towards the end. Overall though, this is a well written book that is worth reading

I did enjoy this book and read it quite quickly as it is simply written with lots of dialogue and is a page turner. It's a psychological thriller based around the all too perfect relationship between Holly and Jack and Holly's daughter Kate. Jack's personality starts to show several sides and it becomes a race against time to find out who he really is and whether he's a danger or not. The story is great but I found the end quite rushed as if everything needed tidying up all in one go. A great, easy read.

I have read one of Maureen's previous books and enjoyed it but found a couple of parts a little dull so I thought this would be perfect as it is the `best bit's of all her books along with a catch up of her more recent exploits. I did enjoy the book but I found it very patchy and you had to work quite hard to work out the historical setting of each story as no dates are noted and on one page her children were babies and the next they were grown up and pursuing their own lives. The memories of her mother Zelma are both hysterical and poignant and worth reading the book just for those snippets. Also, her writings on her husbands illness and untimely death were emotional.

This is a really scary novel about demonic possession made all the more real by its central character who is so normal and so like us. The book is very short and the pace is fast and it should defintely be read all at once to really immerse yourself in the atmosphere.

I really enjoyed all the various issues explored in this book and the interesting relationships between the various characters as they were played out. The book does leave you `hanging' a bit but due to the questions being asked, this is the only possible outcome. I have marked it down for a being slightly slow in pace.

I was led to believe this was lots of short stories which all inter-linked and was disappointed to find they don't. There is one story that continues over several shorter stories but that's all. Quite an interesting and easy read but nothing too thought provoking or challenging.I wouldn't read this author again

An excellent book which still feels amazingly current and relevant for the 21st Century. There were a couple of slow, messy moments but overall a fascinating read with some scary moments reminiscent of 2009!!

This was a very quick, easy read which was spot on in places, so much so that I've copied some bits out to keep ! Won't change your life but will make you feel part of a group all going through the same crises and hum drum existence. Helps you to understand you're not alone, you ARE in the right and you're not just a `nag' !!

I struggled with the slow pace of the first quarter of this book, but once through that the pace was incredibly fast and I could not put the book down trying to keep up with all the twists and turns. This is a good and worthwhile read but I felt a little let down by the ending.

I'm a bit dumbstruck on this one ! Parts of it are brilliant and parts are just self indulgent rants. Some of the stories the main characters tell are riveting but the actual lives of the three main characters are a little frustrating and I couldn't find any real empathy or liking for any of them. It's quite a depressing book and very critical of those who actually have dreams based on materialism and financial success, which isn't, after all a crime ! I would have prefered a book of short stories by an author who I normally find breathtaking.

Initially I struggled with the slow pace of this book but I ended up really enjoying it. It is beatuifully written with very well observed characters that fully come to life. I feel the book doesn't truely come alive until the last third when the pace really speeds up. I enjoyed mulling over the questions this book raises about womens roles and the balance between having a happy relationship and wanting to better yourself intellectually...I believe this is still an issue today. The ending for me was a little disappointing as all loose ends were too neatly tied up and I would have liked a little more drama !!

I read this book purely as I was going to see the show and wanted to know the story. I am not a fan of fantasy books normally but I found this book strangely compelling. I thought the story of the `two' sisters was interesting but the metamorphosis of Nessarose into the Wicked Witch of the East didn't ring true. A good read but a little patchy at times.

A fantastic book about the lives of two notorious 18th Century London criminals. It's a potted history written almost as fiction with a fantastic background of London in the 1700's. By no means a full history of these men but really makes you want to read more. An excellent read beautifully written.

Sadly, I had to give up on this book as it was just too much hard work...the constant Irish colloquialisms kept slowing everything down and the pace was just too slow in general.

One of the only books I was forced to read at school that I then re-read for pleasure. Beautifully drawn, honest characters with an honest portrayal of a particular time in history.

This is hugely disappointing after the brilliant Straw Men which this follows on from. A muddled plot, too many characters to keep up with and too long. Just read the Straw Men and skip this.
