(Language: English)
I recently read somewhere that Bridget Jones' Diary is a great parody of Pride and Prejudice. Thinking of it, I guess it's right. An easy read, will really enlighten your day...you won't need longer than that because you'll be devouring it.

I am not a teenager any longer, but I absolutely loved these books. I guess it's called escapism. Beautful love stories.

Abdolutely amazing. As the summary says, it's another kind of Pride and Prejudice, set during the time of the industrialization in Britain. And it actually adds to the love story the struggle of the factory workers and their desperation to get fairly paid for the work they do. The risk they submit their loves to when they work in the cotton factories. Sublime. I actually think I loved it more than Pride and Prejudice. I may have been a little influence by the BBC movie version, with Richard Armitage as Mr. Thornton.

The same struggle we find in all of Austens' books. The heroines want to marry someone they love, they don't want to marry only for status and money. The fact I found funny was that in almost all her books the man they fall in love with and who loves them back, has quite an acceptable fortune and social standing, so they don't really need to decide. The only exception is Persuasion, which gives a bit more complexity to the choices. I think she wrote the book at a later stage in her life and you can see the difference.

(Language: English)
The wonderful Mr. Darcy. Not sure if living with someone who doesn't know how to express their thoughts and feelings would be quite a dream. The book keeps you breathless till the end, no matter how many times you read it. Was angry at the thought of how women were so dependent in those times. No freedom of choice. Either mothers and wives or spinsters. Terrible. Loved this quote: "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters." |

Great insight into the Chinese world. Mind opener for the many sorrows hidden behind the great economic growth.

(Language: English)
An interesting read for someone who studies the science of literature, with the different points of view, the narrator, the hero and the author. The flow of the story is broken at times to enter other points of view and talk about a book one of the characters is writing. Quite confusing. Otherwise, great story.

Very original idea. Great insight into the mind of a person who find themselves between sexes. Not so easy to follow though. His stile is a bit difficult at times. Great read, will definitely make you think.

Excellent depiction of the way traumas can mark different persons in different ways depending on their environment and the affection that they receive or do not receive. Full of suspanse.
