(Language: English)
The book is actually a companion to the documentary of the same name. I saw the film first and am very glad I did. The book focuses on a lot of problems that take seeing the film to really understand (of course, unless you have a link to the american education system). Making this book a worthy read is that Participant media brought in viewpoints from all spectrums. You hear from the people behind the documentary, but you also hear from a leader of a teachers union and from Bill Gates (Or what I presume was Bill, as the section was attributed to Bill & Melinda but refers to Melinda in the third person). If you have seen the film, give this a read. If not, you are likely still going to learn something from this book, but I would skip it unless you see the film first. |

(Language: English)
Were I not a fan of the product, there would still be something to learn in Eric's book. This is as much a business book as it is a wrestling one. Definitely a valuable read.

(Language: English)
Having followed the Story of Laura and Euna while it unfolded, it was remarkable to hear a first hand account. The small battles that both Laura and her sister Lisa endured are emotional and inspiring. A beautiful story that makes a great read. |
A Reader posted a review at 2011-05-22 02:11:17 for Fixing the Game: Bubbles, Crashes, and What Capitalism Can Learn from the NFL.
(Language: English)
In assessing the current state of American capitalism, Roger Martin opts to use the NFL as an analog. The result is an intriguing read, which examines the ultimate motivations of firms, the structures of boards, and executive compensation. Not only does Martin identify problems with the system, he provides solutions. Give this one a read. Whether you agree with the underlying theme or not, you will very likely learn something. |

(Language: English)
Always interesting to hear from Al as he was prior to gaining political office. Very entertaining read, albeit a little short.

(Language: English)
Very well written book. Dawkins' sources all of his information as goes along and presents a well thought out and compelling argument.A tad controversial at times, sometimes even bordering on condescension, this is a read that will require patience, but it is informative nonetheless. |
A Reader posted a review at 2008-12-17 02:59:02 for I Am America (and So Can You!).
(Language: English)
I'm not going to lie, I cheated and listened to the Audiobook. Well worth the audiobook version, as it is read by Stephen Colbert himself with sections done by other noteables including Jon Stewart.Fantastic work. |
A Reader posted a review at 2008-10-07 11:26:28 for The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream (Vintage).

Amazing story. It really is a chance to see Barack from a different side. There's not much i can say here that won't ruin this book. Just read it.

(Language: English)
A powerful and mindful examination of the current administration, and the current state of affairs in the United States. Gore takes a look at the ways the public currently receive information, and the flaws involved in big-media ownership.A must-read for any politics junkie.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-07-27 02:59:49 for Super-Cannes.
(Language: English)
An interesting read from start to finish, Ballard chooses to set Super Cannes in a futuristic "perfect" business park - aptly named "Eden". This is a story about love, loss, and finding ones self, with an interesting and important social-commentary attached.

Amazing. This was my first read of any work by Gibson and he does not cease to amaze. His descriptions of character and activity are breathtaking. This is a true page turner in every sense of the word. Once you get going, Gibson will not let you stop until the final page.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 02:01:26 for The Antichrist.
(Language: English)
Very good read. Nietzsche describes in great detail his contempt for the Christian faith. He goes into great detail about the problems that he perceives Christianity to have caused... Going so far as to say Christianity has done irreversible damage to humanity. An Absolutely great read even if you disagree with what he has to say.

(Language: English)
I read this as a primary source for a history paper i wrote. Once i started reading i couldn't stop. This book is one of the most interesting books of the modern era and also one of the most applicable. After reading this book i have seen the subject matter come up in 3 of my 4 current semester courses. Smith has his prints on everything with "Wealth". Just read it.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:57:28 for Orthodoxy and Enlightenment: George Campbell in the Eighteenth Century (Mcgill-Queen's Studies in the History of Ideas).
(Language: English)
Written by my history professor (Europe after 1500) this book is an interesting look at one of the most forgotten thinkers of the enlightenment. Campbell was a Christian thinker in an era of anti-Christian sentiment. Very interesting read.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:56:48 for Spike, Mike, Slackers & Dykes: A Guided Tour Across a Decade of American Independent Cinema.
(Language: English)
An interesting look into Modern American Indie Cinema. Unfortunately, it spends a great deal of time on an era of cinema not very interesting to me. Otherwise it is an extremely informative read and a must for any film nut.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:56:04 for Beautiful Losers.
(Language: English)
A fantastic book. I was originally suggested this book by a friend as a reading for a critical analysis paper for an English class. The book itself is fantastic: A challenging writing style I've never seen before and strong character interaction to match. It took me nearly 5 weeks (part time mind you) to finish this book and I'm extremely happy that I did. Five Stars.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:54:05 for Combat: 002.
(Language: English)
Very interesting book, this work is a collection of fictional military stories collected from the minds of military figures themselves. Makes for a very drawing read... The only place it faults is in a lack of proofreading... the grammatical and spelling errors are very hard to ignore and often trip your eyes.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:52:33 for Silent Bob Speaks: The Collected Writings of Kevin Smith.
(Language: English)
Kevin puts together an entertaining commentary of his own life in this short book. Be forewarned... This book holds nothing back and contains graphic details of some events that may push you to the edge of vomiting all the while keeping you turning to the next page.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:50:01 for Phantoms.
(Language: English)
The book that began my interest in the work of Koontz. Phantoms sparked Dean's entrance into the eye of the main stream after being made into a Hollywood film. (Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms)

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:48:46 for Lightning.
(Language: English)
Arguably one of Deans 4 best. The book has all you'd expect from a dean novel and also tackles other interesting subjects including Nazi Germany. The book does what many others cannot and manages to tell a tale that is spread over a time frame of 30 years. One of my favs. I could not put this book down.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:47:46 for The Good Guy.

Koontz returns to his best form. I have never read a Dean Koontz novel this enthusiastically in my life. The Antagonist is extremely well written and dynamic.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:45:33 for Seize the Night.
(Language: English)
One of Koontz' best works. I didn't read the first in the "Moonlight Bay" series, but that had no effect on my enjoyment of this book. The imagery is vivid as you would expect from Koontz and the characters are engaging. There is rumor that a third book is coming in this series... an obvious omen is given on the final page to give credence to this.

A Reader posted a review at 2008-06-26 01:44:45 for The Husband.
(Language: English)
Dean Koontz delivers a take quite unlike what you'd regularly expect from him. No dogs or mythical ghosts and aliens in this one. One of his best.
