Very interesting tale of human struggle for survival n a remote and different place.Never was a fan of science fiction, but this is composed like a greek tragedy in epic style. |

very interesting consept. A lot of short isolated stories, a "føljeton" adds up a complete novel. And what an exciting and tutive novel. Good, actually. |

The Odyssey is a remarkeble story. It tells the tale and adventures of Odysseus on his way from the trojan war and back home to greece, more correctly the northeastern corner of the greek islands. On his journey he endures, discovers, battles, learns, forgets and falls into comfort and oblivion. In the end he reaches home, only to learn that nobody recognises him anymore. They know him from the heroic tales, but suspected him to be lost at sea. Why was he gone so long? The journey from troy to ithaca,is no longer than two or three weeks, but he is underway for 20 years. The tales of lotus in Libya and egypt, the sourceres "kirke" who made his men to swines are metafors of narcotics and the tragedies that follow. Drug addicts and alcholics behave like pigs. Plato had a similar view on that. Drugs make you forget your pain and agony, but unfortunately also make you forget your duties and your loved ones. The remarkable stories of monsters and giants are typical hallucinations and especially when he submerges into the underworld, he is affected by a powerful drug at a cult site on the sland f Sicily, the sungods island. here he "met" his dead mother in a vision. Telling him about his duties to his family. Fortunately he went clean and clear, allthough it took him the best years of his life. Not to mention the most important ones, when his son and wife needed him the most. -Let that be a lesson to the coming generations... jhh- |
