Isabel Allende is a very ambigous writer to me. Some of her novels are so Danielle Steele-soft-romance-like, I just can't read them until the end. Others then, are real treasure with rich characters, a dazzling narrative an most of all, intensely touching portraits of the hardships and turns life often takes on any of us. The house of the spirits is definitel a classic, one of the best books of South-American Literature, and one of the best books ever putting into a story the twists of love and hatred relationships so often bath it.

one of my absolute favourite books. I find it amazing and unbelievable how Schnitzler, despite his gender and time, catches this young woman's inner world with all its female labyrinths of thought, desire and needs crushing with responsibilities, necessities and forces of nature.Always re-readable and just as profound as the first time read.
