This book, published in 1952, is another work of speculative historical fiction that needs to be reprinted. Excellently written, fast paced, and riveting, the story focuses on Gladys, daughter of King Caradoc, as Britain succumbs to the Roman Emperor, Claudius in 43 A.D. The royal family is captured and taken to Rome for the imperial triumph. In Rome, they are introduced to the pagan religion of Christianity, which brings in another element of danger to the story . Check out Tacitus for Caradoc\'s speech to the Roman Senate.

It is too bad that this book is now so hard to find. This historical fiction novel was published in 1934 and relays the story of a young girlof ancient Rome , who is committedby her family to the service of the Temple of Vesta for 20 years, in spite of her great love for a family friend. The story focuses on the unrequited true love that she holds in her heart for those 20 years, but paints a wonderful picture of life in ancient Rome and the intellect and political power of the lady at the center of the story.

I cannot write enough about how passionately I love this book. I read it when I was 9 years old and it had a huge impact on me. The book offers one interpretation of what happened to Akhenaten and his family. The main focus is on Ankhsenpaaten (Ankhsenamon) and her relationship with Tutankhaten, but the highlight is the political suspense that is built around the religious turmoil of the Amarna period.
