For the record, I like books that screw with the normal perceptions of sacred cows...but this book is simply arrogant. The ongoing switchback between biblical prose and modern speech was distracting...a well meant effort, and Mr. Disch was an excellent writer, just not my cup of tea.

Well written, in depth research and excellent characterization. Interwoven with the Lovecraftian stories and the "spellbook" that has been published. If you are looking for a reimagining of Lovecraft's stories, look elsewhere, this is a combination of the history of the Muslim world, the Necronomicon "spellbook" and ancient religions.

This was terrible. The writing is pretentious and by the third murder, you sympathize with the murderers results. Bloated, self satisfied preachy and unappealing.
