(Language: English)
What happens when you find the body of the girl who broke your heart? You spiral into a severe depression. What happens when the daughter of her killer tries to convince you the police got the wrong guy? You try and slove the mystery yourself. And that is exactly what happens in this intense, bittersweet, and unforgetable story by Anna Jarzab.

(Language: English)
You'll find out that there's more than just FOUR pretty little liars in Rosewood after reading Shepard's final PLL book. The most tame of all the series up until the last few pages, Wanted will have you wanting more. It's everything fans have been looking for, and the conclusion is absolutely mindblowing. When I wasn't reading, I was having dificulty sleeping.

Chantelle posted a review at 2010-04-23 07:00:58 for Stick Figure: A Diary of My Former Self.
(Language: English)
Not only is this a personal story of Annorexia, but the fact that it's a personal diary makes it even more powerful. The "characters" are real people throughout this story and easy to identify with. Lori Gottlieb asks her readers profound questions at the end of this story. Ones that have to potential to not just change how you think, but possibly how everyone thinks if you put them into practice. I would recomend this to everyone. At any age. Powerful.

Chantelle posted a review at 2010-03-05 08:12:53 for Heist Society.
(Language: English)
Walking away from your family is a little tricky when your family happens to be one of the best and oldest families of theifs and con artists. So when her father is blamed for a job he didn't do, by a very dangerous man, Katarina (known as Kat to most people) will put everything on the line to keep him out of trouble. Including her plans to leave the family business, and some very basic family rules. She'll lead a team of family members and a few charming young men into one of the greatest heist's ever commited. Well, that's the plan anyways. In the end you'll be left with an extremely well written story and an amzing adventure. Heist Society is Ocean's 11 meets Veronica Mars. Ally Carter is pure genious and her character's in this book were wonderful to imagine. I had fun with this and already can't wait for the next one in the series. I'd recomend it to girls, young and old!

Chantelle posted a review at 2010-03-01 08:37:15 for Beautiful Creatures.
(Language: English)
I really enjoyed this book, but the ending had me disapointed. I guess it's going to be a series? I really just wanted a paranormal book that I could grab an read without having to deal with another series. Still, the characters were nice, and there were twists and such. Which every good book needs. It could have been shorter. Or rather, parts could have been cut. Otherwise, Beauiful Creatures was a pretty good book.

Chantelle posted a review at 2010-03-01 08:29:48 for Some Girls Are.
(Language: English)
Courtney Summers has easily written her way into my favrite author list. Her books show perfect ad harsh realities for girls in high school. We've seen the youtube clips of teenage girls fighting, Some Girls Are goes deeper than just the physical abuse girls can lay on eachother, but the psychological effect from both the bullier and the bullied. And how sometimes that's the same person. An amazing story, I'd recomend Some Girls Are to just about any teen girl, as well as Summer's other novel Cracked Up to Be.

Wow, what an ending! Almost everything you've ever suspected comes out in this installment of Sara Shepard's Pretty Little Liars series. Now we're left with so many other questions...and frankly, I'd kill for the next one! ;)

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-07-18 06:07:37 for Love You Hate You Miss You.
(Language: English)
As people we hardly ever see ourselves the way we truly are, putting ourselves down and holding our friends and peers on a pedestal. And then something happens and the situation changes. It's then that we get a little perspective. It’s been 75 days since Amy’s best friend died, and 75 days since Amy had a drink. Now she’s out of rehab and headed back to school, where she’s the outsider and miserable, blaming herself for an accident that she didn’t cause, but still feels she had a part in. Forced in therapy sessions with a shrink who doesn’t get it and parent’s who, despite never wanting children, won’t seem to leave her alone. Love You Hate You Miss You is a story about grief, friendship, love, guilt and healing. What makes it truly powerful is the way the story itself is told; in both first person and journal entry letters. Somewhere between Meg Cabot and Sarah Dessens writing styles Elizabeth Scott’s pegged the feelings and actions of a grieving teen girl uncomfortable in her own skin perfectly. You feel both the humor and the pain in every situation. I haven’t read a Scott novel that hasn’t managed to either make me laugh out loud or cry long after I put the book down. I believe I did both in this one. Will be waiting in slight desperation for her next books… |
Chantelle posted a review at 2009-05-31 08:44:19 for Once Dead, Twice Shy (Madison Avery, Book 1).

Cute. Hard to follow at times, but a nice story. Different then most of the paranormal YA works out there. Looking forward to the next books in the series.

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-05-26 08:00:15 for Swoon.
(Language: English)
Swoon blew my mind.It is almost impossible to categorize. It’s not really a time traveling novel. Not completely a paranormal/urban fantasy either. It is not a book heavily full of drama, and it is far from just a romance. It’s all of those and more. I’d say it hovers quite near the perfect story. Former New Yorker Candice, “Dice” to her friends, is living in Swoon, a small upscale town in Connecticut. She doesn’t fit the mold but fits in enough to have herself a good set of friends. When her cousin, Penelope, becomes possessed by a, shall we say charming, young man from the 1760’s things start to really change. After a few months of crazy cousin behavior Dice performs an exorcism, allowing Sinclair, “Sin” finally to be released. Mysteriously though, he does not pass on, but instead becomes of flesh. This is all pleasant at first, and then alarming as his motives come into question. Plus something is going on in the town. Can all the events be related? And what’s the story behind Ruby – Candice’s best friend from New York who is apparently dead? Meanwhile two love triangles stretch themselves between Dice and Sin and the past and Dice and Sin and the present. Love at first sight certainly can get tricky when the first sighting happens well past the loving. Nina Malkin’s writing was superb. Sarcastic, witty, bitter, and oddly eloquent I could hear the voices of each character so clearly. Everything flowed together. Thus said it did have some rather mature subjects. I wouldn’t recommend readers under 16. The story is fast paced and if ever becoming confused, I recommend pushing through it – the ending is well worth it! Swoon has quickly become one of my favorite novels! |
Chantelle posted a review at 2009-04-20 03:15:36 for Bones of Faerie.
(Language: English)
I was really surprised by Bones of Faerie. I didn’t expect to like it so much and I didn’t expect the story to go the places it did. I picked it up anticipating the plot to be similar to that of Twilight or Wicked Lovely but was pleased to find myself wrong. Instead Bones… takes place at least twenty years in the future after a war between our world and Faerie, both of which end up being pretty much destroyed. Magic has lingered in our world even post war and people still debate if it’s safe or not. In some situations it isn’t, like the trees that feast on human blood and flesh. But then there are the people who have the power to heal. Are they safe? Can their magic be trusted? When Liza starts seeing things that aren’t really there she leaves her town hoping to keep the people she loves safe. She is joined by Michael whose family was killed by magic and understands what she’s going through more than Liza can imagine. When they come across another town Liza is floored to find it so different from hers. With her new ability, Michael and some people from the new town Liza starts to piece together information about how the world was Before and about her mother. I didn’t expect some of the twists that came and enjoyed them all. Books these days don’t typically have themes, but Bones of Faerie definitely left me thinking. I thought Simner imagined a wonderful story and loves all her characters. I’ll be looking forward to more from her!

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-03-16 01:36:19 for Hunted (House of Night, Book 5).
(Language: English)
I really enjoyed the first four books in the House of Night series, especially the last three. This one though it was good seemed to be lacking something. Some characters had changed, not in a "growth" sort of way, but rather they just acted different then they had been described before. I also felt that the climax didn't come fast enough. The story lagged in spots with unnecessary dialogue where the same events were explained several times to different people. I'm pretty sure the readers got it the first time. The resolution didn't resolve anything either. The enemy has "fled" but will no doubt return and Zoë is still in the same situation boy wise. I haven't given up hope on the series, characters, or authors I was just a little disappointed. Hopefully the next book, Tempted, will be better.

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-02-20 02:21:10 for Dreamland.
(Language: English)
Simply incredible. I hardly ever had anything bad to say about Sarah Dessen. Her words never simply just tell a story. I always can gather much more about myself from my reactions to these works. Already I can't wait for her next one. I don't see anyone reading this without having some sort of bond to the characters and the situation presented in Dreamland, whether or not you've been there.

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-02-04 01:14:58 for A Certain Slant of Light.
(Language: English)
Wow. A Certain Slant of Light pretty much took my breath away. Different from your average "other worldly" romance stories newcomer Laura Whitcomb did a fantastic job on her first novel. The ending was bittersweet, making me cry and smile all at the same time. I simply loved it.

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-02-04 01:11:05 for City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments).
(Language: English)
City of Ashes is even better then The Mortal Instruments first book (City of Bones), and that’s saying something. I cannot wait for March 24 to finally arrive so I can receive my copy of City of Glass, the final story in this incredible page turning series. They've all everything one needs in a novel; suspense, fantasy, humor, epic fight scenes, major family issues, romance and love triangles, and so much more. I'd recommend these books to pretty much anyone and everyone.

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-02-04 01:03:54 for The Goose Girl.
(Language: English)
The Goose Girl was nicely done, it was my first Shannon Hale novel, but I can see why she is such a popular author. The lively characters and settings kept me reading even when the story ran a little clichéd. Goose Girl’s ending has everything a fairytale reader enjoys and I suspect fans of Gail Carson Levine will also love this story and its companions.

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-02-04 12:57:47 for Sunshine.
(Language: English)
I admit to having been a little confused and a lot disappointed by this novel. From the reviews I read and all of its hype I expected it to be really really wonderful, only I found it was missing details and key plot points. McKinley's characters where well thought out and her descriptions were well put together, but the story lagged. Often times I felt I had no idea where the story was going, nor did I even care. I liked Sunshine the character, just not the book.

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-01-31 06:21:50 for Mansfield Park.
(Language: English)
A nice novel, but not my favorite Jane Austen. Franny is simply too weak of a character for me. I am much more content with Austens strong willed characers like Emma and Miss Bennet. However, I really did enjoy the story, especially the second part. Edmond was a fine gentlemen and I was ruiting for him and Franny from the very beginning. I'd recomend this book to any Austen fan, but I wouldn't suggest it to people who aren't familiar with novels from that time.

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-01-14 03:51:36 for Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast.
(Language: English)
This was such a lovely book until the ending. I felt that it left a lot to be desired. It wrapped up in about five pages, without much detail. Up until then the characters all showed depth and intrigue. I adored the enchanted castle. It was very magical and I couldn’t help wishing I were Beauty, for I too was falling in love the Beast. When things finished however, there was not enough detail. It didn’t make much sense, and I was frustrated with the lack of explanation. There is supposedly a sequel or another part at least, to this story, so perhaps I will read that to have my admiration of McKinley restored. I’d still recommend the book to anyone who either likes McKinley’s stories or people who enjoy this sort of genre period. Perhaps you’ll have better luck with its ending then I did.

Chantelle posted a review at 2009-01-12 10:41:10 for Need.
(Language: English)
Need was like a perfect combination of Stephenie Meyer's and Melissa Marr's writtings. Zara, the main character, is forced to go live with her grandmother up in a small town in Maine after her (step)father dies and her mother becomes worried about her sanity. A healthy mind though, is not the only worry her mother should have had for Zara as it becomes clear someone, or something, is after her. At least she has Nick, the amazingly cute boy who has a slight Heros Complex and seems to enjoy being Zara's personal hero. The closer Zara gets to Nick the more she becomes aware of the small towns little secrets. Along with her friends, some of which are a little more then human, Zara sets a trap to catch the "guy" who is after her. Full of suspence, romance, and easy to love characters, I don't see any teen girl not loving this book.

Chantelle posted a review at 2008-12-30 03:34:34 for What My Girlfriend Doesn't Know.
(Language: English)
I love Sonya Sones. All of her books are written in the same lyrical style. This book is slightly different from her others though, as it is the first book she wrote from a boys point of view. However, Sones still manages to fill it with a perfect understanding of what a teenage guy goes through. What My Mother Doesn't Know is probably one of my favorite books, and I loved getting to spend more time in Sophie and Robins world. It was a very nice sequel and a wonderful read.
