A damning account of the methods and madness of the Bush Administration in the war on terror. Illuminates those figures behind the scenes that used specious legal theories and arguments to justify the use of torture and how little acutal material was gained through those methods. In fact, the book makes a strong argument that those methods weakened the American efforts against terrorists.

A comprehensive look at how genocide has been approached by the international community and, in particular, the United States. It pulls no punches and provides ample documentation and evidence to the indifference the world has shown to such places as Rawanda and Cambodia. A difficult read in the sense that it does not trumpet America's successes, but instead doucments our shortcomings and failures to act in accordance with our stated beliefs.

As impossible as it may seem, this book examines each and every aspect of the Great War from a social perspective. From life in the trenches of the Western Front to the British homefront, Fussell provides the reader with a complete accounting of all the horror of the Great War along with the dramatic social changes it wrought. At separate turns sentimential, humorous and tragic it is simply one of the best books I have ever read and a wonderful escape from the dry history that can overwhelm and bore a reader. A worthy volume to pair with "All Quiet On The Western Front" and to really gain an understanding of how violent and wasteful the Great War was.

My favorite book of all time. Have read it and read it again many times over. A brilliant black comedy that leaves you laughing in fits as well as realizing the futility of war.
