A tribute of the strength and character of Women! In the face of the direst existence... the flame for Life flickers unabated... this is a story which touched my soul and piqued my admiration! A wonderfully up-lifting read, even if the story-line should in fact be sad!

One of the best books I have ever read! It had echoes of my own childhood - which although lived in another country - was so in line with that of the author of this book - that I found it was like "omparing notes" with a good friend! A heartwarming childhood re-visit for me.... and a revival of a preciously happy time of my life!

An incredible book which dares to question all the things we may dare to imagine and ask ourselves - but don't out loud because - it's not 'right' to do so! But "what if..." makes for a wonderfully, fast moving story, that contains all the best qualities of stories. Love, adventure, excitement, thriller, present day greed, with a questionable historical background - all rolled into a story which holds you from the first page. A story, which is a must read for anyone with a questioning mind - even if it's simply to allow yourself the luxury to question!

Reading this book is like going on a long, incredible journey along-side it's characters. I read 'The Hobbit" first - so had a very good picture of where we were travelling from, and never wanted the story to end! I lived the book (several times over!) each time I read it. If you like long sagas, quests and understand that Life itself is filled with all these things as we try to discover ourselves and our capabilities this is a wonderful read! Again the fight of Good versus Evil, where surely, Good must wih through if only enough people uphold the values and support one another. Where there is Hope, there surely is Life! I loved this book!

This is a True story told in the first person by a young Jewish girl, in the most tender and optimistic language of the heart. Her sad life and living conditions for the duration of the Second World War are stoically tackled and I for one came to love and cherish her as a loyal, gentle friend. My heart weeps for the loss of such an incredible human being - who in the Spring of her life had to endure such hardship - and yet, almost to the end, remained light-hearted, loving and gentle - and wise beyond her years! War is a terrible thing - but leaves us all these unsung heroes, who can be held up as candles in our dark times - as examples for human beings to continue to strive against all odds to retain their dignity even when life seems impossible. Make Ann Frank your friend - read her words, and place her gently - with love -into your heart for eternity.

Again a Children's tale - but with morals to be learnt - while delving into adventure! The characters escape life's hard realities - and twist those hardships into learning curves with a Romanticism which makes for a wonderful fairytale. The fight of Good versus Evil is eternal in our world cultures - and even though we know instinctively, that Good always wins out in such tales, there are heart-stopping moments when Evil treads on the golden dreams - allowing some sadness into our lives. A wonderful read for both children and adults with the hearts of children!

Possibly one of the very best books I have ever read! I loved the adventure, the loyalty and the 'fairytale' atmosphere. I love children's books - although I often suspect that these books are very far above the perceptions of children. Understood on an adult level, it holds a magic which begs to have it read many times! Mankind, and his aspirations - very intelligently understood by an author, who knows how to hold your attention, and tell a spellbinding story. (As well as teach a life- lesson!) You have to read it - to understand the experience!

I loved the book - not for it's story thread - but for what the story makes one learn and open up to. It is an ugly truth that people (in this case children - but adults are no different!) revert to their basest insticts when order and logic leave. There is much in this book - which can be sen as a description to many of the savagery happening out there in our world today. Perhaps worth a read again - to remind ourselves that law and order is necessary to avoid the pitfalls and horror we can (and are) (be) confronted with without it!

I have read this book several times over the years. Each time I gained a different perception. An insightful story, written in a deceptively simple manner - whch leaves one feeling sad, but hopeful.

This is a touching tale - which takes place in a foreign setting. A book which one can learn much from as regards the history and customs of another culture. Beautifully, and soulfully told.

In my opinion not the best story he has told - but then I'm partial to "The Da Vinci Code"! I found it a a bit heavy in parts - and slightly long winded - technically. But then,my attention is better held by historically and romantically linked tales. A good read nontheless. There is no denying DAn Brown is an exceptional author.

Again - a school set-work. Discussed to distraction and multiple essays were written during the year! A dark and secretive background - with hidden agendas, murder and then the heaviness of guilt to contend with - the characters are easily recognisable as everyday people. A poetic rendering of history - albeit truth bent by the author, Shakespeare, to suit his storytelling.

This was a school set work for me - so read and re-read in depth and discussed in detail, requiring several essays to be written! I loved this book as a young girl - and grew to know Jane Eyre as a friend. I felt with her the hardships and triumphs as surely as if she had materialised before me on every page I read.

An exquisitely dark sad story, well told by an exceptional author. Love and all it's contradictions as well as all it's aspirations exist within a single story - so cruel and so real that one understands it perfectly, even as one hates it's sorrowful progress. A book which has to be read - several times, I feel, for it's depth and passion alone!
