Jen posted a review at 2012-05-01 03:39:30 for What is secular humanism?.
(Language: English)
I unfortunately found out the writer's negative view when I was more than half way through. He seemed fairly impartial in the beginning. He touched on some admirable Atheists, but then he only focused on the negative Atheists. He claimed that Hippies were only doing their protests to go against their parents. He painted them as selfish people who only cared about themselves and that just isn't true! I was looking for an unbiased look at Secular Humanism. What I found was an extremely Conservative piece of propaganda.

(Language: English)
It's a great book about an extraordinary cat. This book brought me to tears, and that doesn't happen often.

(Language: English)
It was good. I liked the ability that the fantasy had to take me away. Being a Chicagoan, I also liked reading about all the Chicago sites. I could have done without all the Catholic, religious aspects.

This book is very interesting. There are a lot of interesting hair styles, but I would only use about three. I wish there had been some 80's hair styles, Only because I wanted to see how ridiculous they were. :)

I haven't read many comic books, but this one was pretty bad. There wasn't really any shocking plot twists. The whole reading experience felt pretty pointless.

It's an awesome book! It really puts dating in perspective... This is the perspective that your dating life is just as screwed up as hers.

Jen posted a review at 2010-09-27 10:10:46 for Wuthering Heights.
(Language: English)
I will admit that the characters might have been more complex than Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. This does not necessarily mean that this book is better. Both books have slow parts that could be omitted. Wuthering Heights leaves readers feeling depressed, as though their time was wasted. Jane Eyre will always be a favorite in my eyes, a book to read for pleasure. Wuthering Heights is the kind of book a cruel English teacher would force on her students.

Jen posted a review at 2010-09-27 06:52:37 for Rebecca.
(Language: English)
This book was surprisingly creepy for its time. Some of the surprises could be foreseen, but that did not take away the the shock. It was also interesting to think that a house-wife of the 1930s would come up with characters so diobolical and underhanded. It's reminiscent of "Desperate Housesewives".

It was good for the Eat part, but then it got extremely boring! I couldn't bring myself to get past page 100.

Jen posted a review at 2010-05-25 01:36:54 for Beloved.
(Language: English)
This book had its captivating moments. I appreciate that Morrison chose to use a true event for the starting point of her story. The issue I have with her writing is that it is too thought out. What I mean by this is that she doesn't let the story flow. There's too much symbolism on top of symbolism. A few subtle similes and metaphors can be good. The literary nuances shouldn't be thrown in our face, though. It makes it hard for the reader to enjoy the story, get swept up in it. |

(Language: English)
I had to read this for school. It was better than I thought. It kind of dragged in some places, though.
