(Language: English)
Its a romantic love story that is too much enmeshed in love. The story is not radically different from what can be found in Mills & Boons, but its difference lies in the fact that it shows the life of the protagonists even after they get each other. Normal love stories evolve around the courtship days, and once the hero manages to get the heroine or vice versa, the story ends and we assume that they "LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER". This book, on the contrary, remains with them till their old age, when they are no longer young, dreamy, passionate lovers, but are geriatrics and live in a old age home. Its at this part, when their love overwhelms us and one can't help but ask the question "Is it possible to love someone with the same intensity and passion after so many years?".This story fills us with hope, that maybe such a love exists in which we love more with every passing day and that love renews itself as we grow old and its capable of achieving the impossible! |

Riya A new beginning..... posted a review at 2008-09-14 07:14:46 for The Witch of Portobello.
(Language: English)
A typical Paulo Coelho book..But I liked it...Its weird but I found many similarities with "Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. The Mother Goddess, the gypsies,St.Sarah, pagan religions,witchcraft.....all these can be found in Da Vinci Code when Robert Langdon describes the grail to Sophie..Even at they end when Jaques Sauniere's wife tells Robert Langdon to "sing her song"...that "the world needs modern troubadors".....its as if the world actually has all these troubadors in the form of writers as Paulo Coelho,Dan Brown who write about the Mother Goddess...the Lost feminine...I was very surprised to find that the instances mentioned in Da Vinci Code regarding the Grail being a female and its attributes are actually given in this book.I liked the book.....the ending is really surprising...A good book all in all.

I liked this book of Khaled Hosseni more than "The Kite Runner".Its the story of two women separated by almost a generation......belonging to different stratas of society and leading two very different lives...but fate brings them together....The narrative is good...It also gives us a glimpse of the life of women in Taleban ruled Afganisthan.A really heartening story of two human beings.I'll recommend it to everyone...

(Language: English)
Its a kind of travelogue....a story of a boy who's shipwrecked....who has lost his whole family in it...and is left in a lifeboat in the company of the most bizzare creatures one can think about......a royal bengal tiger,an orangutan,a zebra and a hyena...the rest of the story is how he survives gor almost a year in that life boat.I liked the theme of the book......the language is really good...a timepass book all in all.

Riya A new beginning..... posted a review at 2008-07-11 05:17:39 for Love Story.
(Language: English)
Overrated book.Nothing extraordinary about this book. May be I didn't find the book interesting because so many Hollywood movies have lifted parts from the book that the book doesn't come around as something new......Otherwise its just a timepass with nothing extraordinary to offer.

Riya A new beginning..... posted a review at 2008-07-11 05:05:49 for One Night at the Call Center.
(Language: English)
This book is one of the most overrated books I have ever come across. The beginning is not interesting. It looses its pace in between to pick it up again in the end.Chetan Bhagat could do a better job than "One Night @ Call Center"!!!:(

The author is a master storyteller. Its not the story but the way in which it has been narrated excites me.A good book but but the hoopla around it has been blown out of proportion. It is an overrated book.
