I loved this book. Even though it is pretty old and the way it talks about what at the time were current events shows its age I found it a refreshing read and I intend to read more of the same. I love what she says about sex ed most of all. |

I read this book under the title "Home and Away". It is hilarious but pretty wrong on nearly every page. The illustrations add to it and sadly the kids liked it too.

(Language: English)
very satisfying book full of humour and a different way of looking at the world. The book is kind of innocent without being bland and I want to read all of them.

(Language: English)
I only read this because of Comedy Capers (to understand that comment go see the show - it helps if you are in adelaide - go on type it into your little search at the top or pm me for a ticket)It was pretty amusing. So that's what a vipper of vip is. Sebastian was disappointed it wasn't exactly like the song but he enjoyed it nevertheless. He likes nonsense rhymes - like left and beft. |
Stef posted a review at 2009-04-01 05:36:28 for There's a Wocket in My Pocket!.
(Language: English)
i enjoyed it more years ago after a three day bender and no sleep I thought it was the wittiest most creative thing ever. Should I be admitting this? Judging by my book reviews I must look like a full time alcoholic and I really am not. Just one or two books were better without sobriety.I thought it was just ok now, but sebastian was in fits of laughter making everyone on the bus smile and I guess he is more the target audience than a (drunk or sober) me |
Stef posted a review at 2009-04-01 05:33:39 for Bravo, Amelia Bedelia!.
(Language: English)
it was ok but I remembered amelia bedelia as fantastic and roll on floor laughing funny but it was just ok and a bit clumsy. sebastian liked it enough to read all of it and seem happy but his usual uncontrollable giggle barely surfaced.

Stef posted a review at 2009-04-01 05:29:51 for Glittering Images.
(Language: English)
Better than I expected. More enjoyable and less annoying. While I don't completely share the theological view of the main character I can on some levels relate to it and it seems plausible for him in his place and time.I feel like punching them now again for their stupid male privilege and blindness but perhaps that is the point. I also felt a bit annoyed at how sex obsessed they all are. Whenever i read stuff like that in a book i figure the author isn't getting enough. In this case the author is female so I can't make my usual (probably sexist) snide comments. But I am glad I read it both psychologically and for fun. I too struggle with my slightly tarnished glittering image. It fools noone but me I suspect. |
Stef posted a review at 2009-04-01 05:23:58 for The Awakening (Vampire Diaries).
(Language: English)
Basically sweet vally high with a vampire added because vampires are considered sexy and glamorous at the moment.Hints at sex constantly in a silly coy way that does not dare actually to go there but fails to be subtle either. Thinks it is better written than it is gratuitous uses of words like "reverie" but at least uses "myriad" correctly where so many don't. Enjoyablish in a shallow way but I don't expect I'll bother to read the sequels unless someone suts them in my face when i am bored. |
Stef posted a review at 2009-03-09 19:22:16 for Dragon Rider.
(Language: English)
it started off a bit too much like a cartoon (which is actually how she wrote it on purpose) and I didn't imagine I was going to like it. It seemed a bit stereotypical and melodramatic. As the book progress it pulled me in and I finished it with a feeling of gladness that I persisted. I hope my kids read this because it is a fun and worthwhile journey |
Stef posted a review at 2009-03-09 19:16:30 for Melting Stones (Circle Reforged).
(Language: English)
I still love pierce and I think she needs to be writing what she is writing because it is an antidote to a lot of the crap out there but it is starting to all seem the same to me.I will still read more if she writes it about Evy or anyone else she writes because I like her style, message and characters it is just i guess that i have read so much of her now that it no longer has that freshness and impact. Like the food from every place seems sort of similar. Oh but this sounds like dissing and I don't want to diss. I am still a fan of Tamora Pierce and this book is as good as the others. |
