I love this play...in fact, it is one of my favorites of Shakespeare's. Now don't get me wrong it is definitely not among his best written and the characters don't get as fleshed out as usual... but somehow, honestly, none of this is very bothersome because what it lacks in depth it makes up for in lightness. It's a very amusing tale and I frankly love how he keeps things so whimsical and jovial considering the major plot points... And though he may not take himself overly seriously there are still layers in this and I think it illustrates in a lovely way that when you fall in love it can be/get a little crazy but that is one of the joys of love, the beautiful messes that are out of your control. All in all, despite it's fantastical aspects and over the top comedic relief it really is pretty grounded in human nature like the rest of Shakespeare's works.
