To attempt to wax poetically about East of Eden would be a grave mistake on my part. Know only this: few other novels--The Bluest Eye, Invisible Man, The Road, and House of Leaves--have left as deep an imprint on my very soul and given me a great joyful sadness at reading its last words as this epic has. Magnificence in prose.
