Vallikkat MohandasFinished reading on Nov. 13, 2011. FEVER by ROBIN COOK. Dr.Charles Martel gave up his lucrative practice as a physician, to become a full time researcher at Weinburger Institute.This was necessitated by the death of his 1st wife, Elizabeth of Cancer - LYMPHOMA. Dr.Martel was of the opinion, " A real cure of CANCER can only come from better understanding of the CHEMICAL COMMUNICATION among CELLS of which the IMMUNE SYSTEM is a DIRECT DESCENDANT." But Weinburger wanted him to promote Chemotherapeutic drug 'CANCERAN' of Leslie Pharmaceuticals. In the meantime his daughter Michelle was diagnosed for acute MYLOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA & prescribed by the Pediatric Oncologist,Dr.Stephen KEITZMAN, hoping to get a REMISSION, to which Dr.Martel was not in favour. In the important developments followed, Dr.Martel who refused to pursue Chemotherapy research, was dismissed from Weinburger, so took all his sophisticated research equipment to his residence,along with his abducted sick daughter & continued his immunological research.Finally he succeeded his T-lymphocytes response with Michelle's leukemic cells: T-lymphocytes lysing & destroying the leukemic cells : The T-lymphocytes,sensitized on a surface Antigen on the leukemic cell, were able to pierce the leukemic cells' membranes. Thus Dr. Martel proved his findings by getting a cure for his daughter, Michelle. For all these doings of his, he was branded as a criminal by the Weinburger's & Leslie's & finally after Dr. Martel's surrender, they were forced to approve his work, set freed him with adequate compensation. Later Dr.Martel leaves Shaftesbury for Southern California, to lead a new Life with his 3 kids - Chuck, Jean Paul, Michelle & his 2nd wife, Cathryn.
