I don't like the way Gleick tells us how the subjects in his book felt. Without a direct quote from the subject, any description of personal thoughts and feelings (other than the author's), is bullshit.

I don't think it would have been too much trouble to say, so and so PROBABLY felt such and such a way, or so and so CLAIMED that so and so felt such and such a way.

This is otherwise a great book.
