As always with Irving, filled with unforgettable, quirky characters. I don't know quite how he does it, creating these characters, but they really live with you outside the pages of the book. Some unforgettable images and scenes, also always Irving's strength. Lots of other great things about this book, but in terms of forward momentum, storytelling drive, and other aspects of the writing craft, it didn't totally do it for me. The story didn't inspire me to keep reading, just the characters. Not his best, but worth it nonetheless.
