I enjoyed this book immensely for two reasons: 1. the author and 2. the content. David McCullough is an absolutely superb writer and historian. I am sure he could write a book on the drying and curing process of paint and it would still be fascinating. In this work, McCullough chronicles the early years of a man who I believe became one of our nation's greatest Presidents. TR had a privileged childhood. McCullough gives the details of the Roosevelt's year long tour in Europe, the family's trip down the Nile River, Theodore's hunting expeditions and ranching adventures out west, and his years as a student at Harvard. I also like that McCullough branches out as well to provide a context of the political landscape of New York City in Theodore's time. Intertwined with Roosevelt's story is a lot of history concerning the early years of the Republican party. Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Thumbs up!
