Very well written and truly deserves the acclaim that it has received. Challenges the norms in Indian society through the experiences of various members of a family in Kerala, India. Recommended read for anyone willing to think about the caste system. There is a lot more to the book - anglophile culture in India, communism, family politics, love, and relationships. Makes the reader stop and think along the way. Quite a tragic ending.
