A wonderful introduction to the world of Middle Earth, The Hobbit presents a world of magic, song and mystical tradition.

I first read The Hobbit right before Peter Jackson's "Fellowship of the Ring" came out in theaters. I loved it and read the Lord of the Rings series within a couple of weeks. The first time I read it, I was somewhat distracted and even bored by the poems and songs throughout the book, but upon a second reading, I found them as an integral part of the style of writing that has made Tolkien's works so enjoyable. If you enjoyed the movies, or have a particular affinity to fantasy, The Hobbit is a wonderful read.
