First impressions of can be deceptive, especially with this book. I must confess to starting reading the printed version of this book, then switching to the audiobook (unabridged) version, when I found the four main characters a bit too difficult to follow at the start.
Only when all the characters stories started to interweave with one another - did the author's complex structure of the book make sense to me.
Reverse chronology did work for the majority of the book. I only found a weakness in the writing of the 1941 chapters, especially where Duncan was concerned. Still a very enjoyable book though.
