I found this book fascinating. Yes it was a big downer but it also made me think of what the world would be like if something really bad happened. It takes place years after some kind of disaster (the book never tells you exactly what it was) where all plants, trees and animals and most people are dead. There is no shining sun and when it does rain or snow it's grey and ashy. A dad and his young son (born post disaster and knows nothing of how the world used to be) are traveling together, scavenging, trying to find food and stay away from "bad people". This book makes the simple things we take for granted seem much more important. Read it if you don't mind a book that pretty much is a downer throughout.
