Paulo Coelho makes writing beautifully seem so easy and effortless. In Fifth Mountain, Coelho tells the biblical story of Elijah, the "prophet" who flees persecution in his homeland of Israel. It's difficult to put aside the religious aspect of this book, as it chronicles Elijah's struggles and doubts with his prophetic visions. As Elijah is the book's hero, the polytheistic religion that Jezebel brings to Israel, is depicted as false religion. That being said, and despite my personal views on the ills resultant from many organized religions throughout history, Coelho has the ability to convey something deeper in this work. What shines though is to believe in yourself and persevere, very wonderful and uplifting messages.

in this book and despite the fact that paulo excercice some kind o fraud disproportion to the readers a message was well read sent and recieved that sometimes it was necessary to struggle with god. a child can always teach an adult three things: to be happy for no reason, to always bebusy with something, and to know how to demand with all his might that wich he desires. Absolutely true.

I believe in the personal legend when everything and everyone conspires for your success! Prophet Elijah instructs us about the mysteries of God through his own experience! A very good spiritual book for those who believe and hope! This is one of my favorite books. It's inspired me to do many things in my life I never even dreamed of. I have no other adjective to describe it but: Awesome!I truly recommend you to buy it and read it as many times as you possibly can!

A very interesting parable on the prophet Elijah. Coelho infused a common man’s weaknesses and strengths in this prophet, making it more possible for readers to identify with him. His writing was sparse and almost devoid of detail, which I believe he was trying to evoke a biblical retelling of the story, where in the bible there would be little imagery story building techniques. It felt like a retelling of a biblical story. There were a lot of things in the book, little inspirational sentences that could boost anyone’s confidence to continue with their life in ardor. He sprinkles pearls throughout the book and you can feel the writer truly believes in the goodness of every human being, whether a believer in the faith or not, and its just the question of the individual realizing that same thing and put into living life.

I love this book it tells about the story of elijah and his struggles its like retelling the book of I king in details it was good and inspiring to read just like that of the alchemist

I'm sometimes given Coelho books because they're supposed to speak to the person on a level that's puristic and simple enough to allow for at least partial interpretation. And they often do, despite being able to dissect his style. Fifth Mountain is probably not his best book, and also not the one I'd recommend to anyone as the first one to try, but to the properly initiated, it does have its appeal. The story is that of 'prophet' Elijah - focused on the history, the geography, the human, the personal - in other words, on almost everything we are traditionally not used to when reading about the lives of prophets. And the religion is depicted as a very personal struggle with deities not being attributed any obvious super-natural powers. It's interesting and the overall message is as always, worth chewing on and emotionally charged. The book does suffer from too much simplicity, but then which of his books don't? It's the magic and the unforced spirituality which make Coelho a good read when the mood is right...
