Fantastic collection of short stories combining science fiction, horror, fantasy and social fiction. The very first Harlan Ellison book I read and one that I have gone back to again and again.

amazing journey about how people worship Gods of money, Gods of slot machines, whores, etc. incredible insight no one writes like him i highly recommend it, it was an amazing read, mind blowing i must say.

First book by ellison i read. Spent 2 years looking for a copy. Not a complete home run, but 95% is not bad either.

The stories in this book are master pieces. Nothing less than that. They make you think, they are fun to read, they are very clever!... If you want to read Harlan, start with this one. You might have to buy a preowen copy, though.

He ain't kidding when he tells you not to read all the stories at one sitting. The unrelenting despair and disgust just starts to bring you down. I can't rate this book, because there were a couple of stories I thought excepetional but also a few which seemed weak. Worth checking out though.

Ok... honestly here's the deal. After putting this book at five stars, I had to go back and knock all the others down a notch. This is honestly the thing that completely altered my conciousness as a person. For some people it's an album, for other's it's a movie. For me it was this book. It's a pretty simple concept, gods do exist as people believe in, or "worship" them. So what kinds of new gods exist today? Where do they draw power? Who prays to these techno-dieties? Cool fuckin' book man.
