I absolutely LOVED this book- it was great to get a peek at Ankh-Morpork before Vetinari was Patrician, and before Sam Vimes was Sam Vimes.

Recommended by Greg. He really likes these books. They are somewhat puzzling at times because the fantasy is so unreal yet not and it takes me a while to remember which time period the story is unfolding in. I thought Thief of Time was the best (of the three Pratchett's I've read) but I think Greg's right, Night Watch made me think more and was easier to relate to.

Perhaps it's because Sam Vimes is my favorite, but I loved this book. You always find something different each time you read one of Pratchett's novels--and I'll never grow tired of them.

Excellent book, kind of dark but really gets into the murky and rarely probed soul of Vimes. Masterful characterisation really shows why Pratchett is one of the most literate writers in the English language today.
