I first read this book in school with my class, I remember loving it so much. I now read it with my son, which is a great experience! He loves it as well.

This book got me started on my poetry craze I still haven't grown out of, and probably never will. Great collection of poems in there :)

Shel Silverstein was an outstanding children's poet and illustrator. Many of his writing also became songs (A boy named Sue - Johnny Cash) He was banned as an author is some places , I can only assume that it was banned because of Silverstein's work for Playboy magazine, because there certainly wasn't anything in the book to justify banning it. It is a book of poems for children, for heaven's sake. Even the Playboy theory is weak at best. Some people just baffle me.In any case it's a book your kids and yourselves can pick up at anytime , pick any page and be entertained with some of the best children's poetry ever.

amazing poems interesting stories behind the poems. it is just a fun read, i would suggest it to anyone my almost 50 year old father always says how much he loves that book and how we would always want to read it to me when i was younger. my father is a well educated man very into history and science fiction this is not like him to be interested in poems and for him to admit it is good it must be.

A completely magical collection! The imagination and wit of Shel Silverstein never ceases to amaze me as he does anything to make kids laugh (and, to my eternal gratitude) educate them. Make no mistake, the man is too intelligent to be just silly. There is intelligence to each and every poem, even if it is ust the word structure. As a teacher, I best appreciate this due to the different ages it reaches. I found myself reading my class one poem only to end if half way do to semi-mature content (come on, it's first grade, they can't hear everything). Shel Silverstein is the Man.

This is a wonderful collection of poetry for children of all ages. Each poem focuses on different concerns that a child may witness or something so strange, you can't help but laugh. For this reason, these poems are wonderful for children because they can easily relate to them or just laugh
