I can always tell which are my favorite books, because they're the ones in the worst shape, with creased spines, torn covers and stains on the pages. So, according to that reckoning, this must be the greatest book Shel ever wrote. I own most of his children's works and this one stands out on the shelf. In the words of Backwards Bill, it must be my "own true hate." : )

These rhymes, poems and artwork are just as enjoyable to my kids as they were to me growing up. I can't say how many times we laugh out loud together while reading something silly of his. He has a rare talent, his writing encompassing that childlike enjoyment, wonder or just ridiculousness.

This book is one of my all time favorites. It is book that has poems about very creative and imaginary characters such as Clooney the Clown, Pamela Purse, and the Bear in the Refrigerator. These poems are very funny and they tell all kind of stories. Some times they are sad, happy, or goofy

I purchased this book for my grandson last July for his 4th birthday. I asked @Cody and @Paige to write a note next to their favorite entry. Needless to say, the book arrived late to the little guy because we kept rereading.

Shel Silverstein is basically a genius. I read this book every week before my piano lessons at my grandparents' house. Looove it.

I love Shel Silverstein books!! This was the first one I ever owned by him and the reason I had my mom buy it when I was a kid was because my school teacher had read some of the poems from that book and I just had to own it. I still have it too, and I love to sit and read poems out of it to my daughters. They are just wonderful little stories and rhymes. They make you laugh and think about weird stuff, gets the imagination going. My favorite one is "Policeman, policeman, help me please!! Someone went and stole my knees. I'd track them down, but I suspect, my legs and feet just wont connect!!" Lmao, yes I pulled that from memory, awesome poems for anyone with a sense of humor.
