I liked this book, it was kind of like getting to pick C. S. Lewis's brain on random topics, which is pretty enlightening. Of course some essays were more enlightening/inspiring/better than others, but overall a worthwhile read.

Great book. Honestly the thing that has stayed with me is the statement he wrote in the forward about how a fellowship is a deadly serious venture and needs to be approached with an adult mind.

Every page of Lewis that I read reminds me why he is one of my favorite authors. In these addresses, his brilliance shines just as perceptibly through these sermons as any of his other written works. And, in some ways, these addresses reveal a transparency and spiritual honesty that is more veiled in many of his books. The most piercing were "The Weight of Glory," "The Inner Ring," and "A Slip of the Tongue." I have already re-read them, and I am sure I will again.

One of the most powerful writings I've encountered. Turned much of what I've thought of God on its head. It's so short, but sometimes I'd read a statement and then could not read a word more before letting that statement sink in and cement itself into my thinking. Great for true seekers who want something really deep to challenge them.

Any fan of Lewis's other works will enjoy this collection of essays and lectures. Lewis's thoughts regarding Christian equality in Membership are worth everyone's consideration in this era of "equal rights". And anyone who's sat through a few commencement addresses will be impressed with Lewis's address to Oxford grads in The Inner Ring. I strongly recommend this book.

This book had some of my favorite essays, namely "Learning in War Time" and "Transposition." Overall, it was a decent collection of Lewis' essays. "Learning in War Time" discussed how man constantly produces culture and that no event really introduces anything new to the equation, but merely agitates the situation. Thus, it is not that we will do without works of culture, but that if we attempt to do so, we will only succeed in replacing a higher culture with a lower one. Transposition was about how higher ideas get lost in translation as they transpose down to a lower medium which likely has a smaller vocabulary/means of accommodating the higher thing.
