Wow - this reads like a true story! I loved the characters, the love and hate and the broken thinking. I know more about life and the world after reading this book.

Couldn't finish this one either as the father was such an arrogant jerk. Some people should never venture out of their own environment.

absolutely artful in her representing so many different perspectives in the midst of a complex and very funny story line! This is easily one of my favorite books ever. I think it's simply brilliant!

What a strong story, a book I didn't want to put down about a missionary taking his family to the Congo - written from the perspective of the wife and four daughters. I am just about to read it again.

Initially I had difficulty getting into this novel. The point of view is constantly shifting but once you become accustomed to that it ends up being a necessary part of the book. By far one of the most powerful books I have read. But, be forewarned, at times it almost verges on too much. I've had to take breaks periodically as it becomes overwhelming. Still...among the best I've read.
