Didn't like The Colour of Magic much but gave The Light Fantastic a go because, given Pratchett's fan base, I thought I must be missing something. Turns out I wasn't. This one's as disappointing as the first. Wierd for its own sake, linear plot, overwrought humour and too slim for the price. Then again, that might be its saving grace.

Early Pratchett, not as sharp and satirical as his later books. On the plus side, it introduces Granny Weatherwax.

Enjoyed it. An earlier Pratchett than most I've read (apparently third in the Discworld series). Its satire is focused on just a few targets: academia, families, sexism, rather than the broader society-wide scope of some later works. Develops the background on witches and wizards that is just referenced in later works. As the book centers on them, Granny Weatherwax and Esk are fully developed quirky characters in the finest Pratchett style.
