Una tormentata vicenda personale nella straziante cornice del dramma dei desaparecidos vittime del regime cileno, resa con quel trasporto, quell'intensità e quel sentimento allo stesso tempo tragico e vitalistico che solo la coinvolgente scrittura di Isabel Allende sa esprimere.

un'amicizia che si trasforma in amore sullo sfondo della dittatura di Pinochet degli anni '70. I due protagonisti si incontrano scontrandosi con la realtà satura di ingiustizie e soprusi che caratterizzò il Cile nei primi anni del regime. Una storia delicata che riesce a raccontare allo stesso tempo lo sbocciare di un sentimento d'amore e la desolazione di un paese popolato di troppe ombre.

Molto bello, letto sia in spagnolo che in italiano.. Il realismo magico sudamericano mi ha sempre affascinata. Il libro si sviluppa attorno a due personaggi, giornalisti sullo sfondo di un Cile sventrato dalla crisi economica e dalla dittatura.. Questo libro è un crescendo continuo di sospetti fino a che la verità sui desaparecidos verrà rivelata

Es el primer libro que lei de Isabel Allende y me gustaron mucho las descripciones de los personas y todo lo que ocurria en cada momento. Es verdad que es una historia triste y llean de horrores que en verdad ocurren pero tambien esta llena de esperanza y amor. Lo recomiendo.

She´s a good writer and I liked the story even though it was a barely shaded story of repression under Pinochet. The actual love story between the couple I enjoyed. I can´t blame Salvador´s niece for her partiality but how rarely do we hear the story of how her uncle almost destroyed Chile and the the great things that Pinochet did...

Isabel Allende is a great writer and her books are in a league of their own. I was really captivated by this novel, its characters and its storyline. A really interesting and dynamic read, it completely involves the reader in the relationship between the two main characters whilst placing you within the political and economic climate of latin america.

Too many stereotypes, its characters are pretty plain. As if I hadn't enough with the quirky end, it was also too cheesy.

Muy buen libro. Leer libros escritos por Isabel Allende se a convertido en una de mis actividades favoritas. Esta es su segunda Novela. Me gusto, pero no mas que La casa de los espiritus e Ines del Alma mia, pero si mas que Mi pais inventado y La isla bajo el mar. Lo recomiendo!

Allende creates two of her most endearing and also realistic characters in this compelling novel. I don't think Chile is mentioned by name, but anyone familiar with that country's recent history will easily recognize the references to the Pinochet regime's excesses in rooting out the "Communist" threat by "disappearing" anyone who opposed his dictatorship. My very favorite Allende book. Unfortunately, the movie starring Antonio Banderas doesn't quite capture the magic of the book.

It has been a while since I've read an Isabel Allende book. Her style and prose is always enjoyable, and I'm always sobered when I read about life under the Pinochet regime. This book reminds me quite a bit of House of Spirits (which I think I would recommend more highly). This one was very good. But House of Spirits remains the classic to read, in my opinion.
