This is Kingsolver at her best! Her characters are so well rounded and realistic, and the descriptions of nature are vivid and appealing. I wondered if could get into this book, I got hooker pretty quick. I learned about plants, animals and ecosystems. She present these subjects in a way that is really interesting and easy to follow. She also does an amazing job of portraying opposing points of view.

I didn't actually finish Prodigal Summer - it paled in comparison to Poisonwood Bible and her non-fiction piece, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, both of which challenged me to think differently or to at least think! Perhaps I didn't give this book enough of a chance...

loved it. couldn't put it down. even now having finished i feel like i want to find out what the characters are up too! her descriptions of the forest and animals are fantastic... a lovely escape.
