The dialog between Esme and Mightily Oats keeps me thinking and thinking-she has some excellent points, she does. It would do well to listen. Its in the blood. I love Granny Weatherwax!

The story for The Witches continues with an invasion of new-style vampires in the country of Lancre. The three witches and an Omnian priest, Mightly Oats :), trying to prevent the "new world order", established by the vampires.

Not my favorite of the Discworld books. Pace is unusually slow and plot is comparitively unappealing. Eight unique "member" jokes in under four pages is pretty impressive, though.

Witches vs vampires in the Discworld kingdom of Lancre (which seems to be a Switzerland analog). Perfectly serviceable Pratchett. As always, the plot was adequate; as with Douglas Adams, Pratchett's genius lies in his writing itself. Fun fun stuff. This time around, he takes a few more shots at Christianity--I mean, Omnianism--and organized religion. While I was able to follow along, it was pretty clear that there were several previous books that this one continued. I would have enjoyed it more had I read those first, I think.

Good story, as usual, for a Pratchett book. Follows the now very familiar broad plot outline of evil almost winning, and the heroes somehow pulling a rabbit out of the hat! Somehow, though, the humour seemed lacking.

Yet another rambling, pointless book in the series. Teh author has clearly written himself out many, many books ago, but still insists on writing this crap. All the jokes have been told over and over again in the twenty something books that came before it. To make matters worse, several characters have such thick accents that its either impossible, or not worth the effort to decipher just what the f*** they're saying.

Pratchett takes on the vampire...I mean vampyre. It's not all embroidered waistcoats and under-wired night dresses, you know. Or sparkles.

Sags just past the mid-point but recovers; creates good questions on role of clergy and belief; also more-than-perfect "people". The tension sags a bit halfway to 3/4ths the way through, but still a good read. Makes you think about the role of clergy and religion, male/female strengths, and Who Are Those Perfect People (not people??!?)

I missed the part where this is a Witches novel when I bought it. I'm not so keen on them, for some reason. It's good, but hasn't grabbed me the way the Guards ones do. UPDATE: It's worth hanging on to the end, but these ones still don't appeal to me as much as others in the Discworld universe.
