When you're 24 and has it all: great looks, fine job, boys you like who drool over you, what more could you ask for? Veronika is not the typical girl who lives like everyone else. She finds herself in the monotony of life and tries to search for something more...Not by living it but by ending it.

Veronika is crazy! The book tells we are all crazy! It tells a lot of things about life, sex and death. Down is the list of the memorable quotes from the book. Fall in love with Paulo for the first time.

I don’t know what to do. I only know that it’s taken me years to understand that life was pushing me in a direction I didn’t want to go in.

If only everyone could know and live with their inner craziness…people would be fairer and happier.

When everyone dreams but only a few realize their dreams, that makes cowards of us all.

Live. If you live, God will live with you. If you refuse to run his risks, he’ll retreat to that distant heaven and be merely a subject for philosophical speculation. Everyone knows this, but no one takes the first step, perhaps for fear of being called insane.

You’re someone who’s different, but who wants to be the same as everyone else. And that, in my view, is a serious illness.

Be like the fountain that overflows, not like the cistern that merely contains.

…it was dangerous to overflow because we might end up finding ourselves occupied by our loved ones and drowning them with our love and enthusiasm

The danger of an adventure is worth a thousand days of ease and comfort.

A miracle happened: another day of life.

An awareness of death encourages us to live more intensely.

That`s the only Paulo Coelho`s book that actually has intriguing character. Unfortunately, this ends after the first chapter.

Just when I was thinking of bringing the mad and psycho era of my life to an end and get my act together, this book comes along and transforms the image of a madman into an all healing all inspiring saint like figure. This is just another classic from the master story teller. I thought that he only wrote about light, peace and happiness but in this book he changes his style and discusses suicide, darkness, madness and still being as insightful as ever. Being a little cynic I could not digest the ending but still this is one gym of a book.

Very similar to the movie "Girl Interrupted" ... I think that movie was based on this book but with a different setting. I didn't care much for the movie but the book was ok.
