What are readers saying about The Fury and Dark Reunion (Vampire Diaries)?

With the conclusion of the second book leaving me to wonder what could possibly happen next, I quickly picked up this double edition and wasn't dissapointed with the third book, 'The Fury'. The story goes at a cracking pace and what occurs is totally unexpected. However the fourth, 'Dark Reunion' went and undid all the good work the third story had worked for. I won't spoil too much, but the ending is possibly one of the most ridiculously stupid conclusions I have ever read.

I loved The Fury; it was a nice end to a trilogy. I did not care for Dark Reunion. It just didn't grab my attention anymore.

Great ending to this four part series, except it wasn't really the ending as two more novels, which I've yet to read have been released. (Think it has to do with the current vampire-mania in our society.)

This book is poorly written and has lame characters. You can tell that the book was written in the 80s or so because the way the characters talk is sooooo dated. Such as: "she wore her bright pink mini" The CW series is much better than these books. The story line is not exciting. Everything is as though it was written by a pre-teen, very basic and childish. If you liked Twilight, this would be a step down.

I've read bad books before, but I have to say that this may be the top of my list. I wasn't to enthralled with the first "two books," and I've only made it through The Fury so far. I started reading the first page of Dark Reunion and decided that I just couldn't keep going. I will eventually do my best to complete these books, but for right now, I need a break from the utter rediculousness.

The characters still aren't likable. Everyone is so wrapped up in their own thing that they don't care about their "best friends." The only one who really seems to care about anyone else is Damon (and even that seems to be for selfish reasons)

The only way I would ever recommend this series to another person would be if vampire suddenly became real and had to follow the rules of these books. Other than that, I would rather eat my copy than lend it to someone and have them experience such torture.

This book, of two novels in one, was very suspenseful with realistic characterization, even with the vampire brothers. Most of the human teenagers were sympathetic but not perfect, just like most teens. Katherine was quite different than the TV show though, but I don't want to ruin this book for anyone who hasn't read it. It differs quite a bit from the TV series in many other ways as well. These novels were written originally in the early 90's though, so the scriptwriters for the TV series probably decided to dust it off/update it in their own way.

Once I was able to get past the 'new' Elena it wasn't bad. Like I said with the 1st 2 they are pretty good if you dont compare it to the TV show. Story was interesting and so was the characters. It ended with the and OMG. I might need to read the next series. Very easy read.

I really liked this book. I have to admit, I don't like L.J Smith. She is very confusing. In one part she is writing as Elena, then as Stefan, then as Damon....I thinks is very confusing. But I liked these books because they were VERY emotional. The ending of The Fury had me crying. IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!! But the ending of A Dark Reunion set it right xD. I usually think that happy endings are very overrated, but in books like these there are exceptions. There has been so much pain between Elena and Stefan, that they just HAD to live happyly(sp?) everafter.

One might question Harper's choice in pairing the 3rd and 4th volumes of Smith's series in one binding - after all, the heart-wrenching conclusion of The Fury gets undercut a bit if you know there's another 200 pages in which to sort it all out. In fact, you almost wish Smith had ended on that sad note...except then you wouldn't get an extra dose of Damon. And really, that's what we're all here for, isn't it? With her initial love story fairly well sewn-up, Smith sets about redeeming the bad boy brother - but not so much as to make him dull. The 9th inning switch in narrators works better than one might expect, and while the end seems a bit forced and maybe a smidge silly, it leaves us wondering: Where's Damon headed next? And does he have a cell number I can get?

Rather disappointing continuance to the story. Perhaps it would have been more enjoyable when I was an adolescent, but the plot/characters seem much more shallow than other plots and characters from other young adult novels I have read recently. I'm sure I will still give the next book a chance, though, because Damon still intrigues me.

I know I wasn't impressed with the second book, but the diaries has redeemed itself with the third and fourth installment. The storyline really picked up and the plot definately thickens. I am really looking forward to reading the fifth book which is about double the length of the first four. I really can't put these books down, and am quite impressed with this YA series.

A lot of the books I read are because I pre-read what the kids want to read. Because they are now in teen/young adult books you can't always feel safe with what will actually be in the book. I have run across enough books that should be in the adult genre to continue reading books before I give them the okay for the kids. This book is a good read for your kids. I would say they should be at least 11 years old if they love to read or would not feel a connection with the charactors. The setting is in a high school. There are also some points in the book where a younger reader just wouldn't get it.

First things first... The third book "The Fury" was good. It was an exciting plot and there was a lot more of Damon here, which I loved because Damon is my favorite character. He is so layered and very interesting, much unlike his brother, Stefan. Stefan bores me to tears. He is always so sweet, doing the right thing, saying the right thing, thinking the right thing, being the right one bla bla bla... I was so sick and tired of him be the end of this book. Elena has chosen the wrong brother in my opinion.

It seems like everyone has just decided to love "the sweet one", Katherine loved Stefan best and so does Elena, which surely hurts Damon much much more than he is willing to admit. And Damon is not stupid, he knows that none of the women he loves has ever really loved him like he wished.

Now another character who annyed me too: Bonnie!
This girl cries a LOT. Most the time she is crying or thinking good things about Stefan. Can someone just stop gushing over boring Stefan and give us more Damon-time? I would have loved to see things from Damon's perspective.
I would like to read in to his 'dark' mind. He is by far the most intriguing character.

Overall a good, but a bit frustrating read, if you're a fan of Damon.
