I take back every snide, rude or negative comment I've ever said, thought or implied about this one. It was addictive, good and well plotted. No in your face cliches (but there were cliches), well defined characters, good paced plot that keeps you guessing and a small dash of conspiracy that keeps things interesting, The Summoning rocked. While I'm unsure about actually buying the rest, I will be reading them!

Not the best book, the language is a little off. Sentence structure lacks in places. Overall, it's a pretty good idea, a nice concept.

X-Men mixed with Twilight mixed with The Ghost Whisperer all tied into 15 year old hormones and run-away teenagers.

Great YA supernatural book. As a fan of her adult work, I like how this YA series ties into the same supernatural universe of Kelley's other books. Action, drama, mystery and NO teen sex!

Perfect first book for this great trilogy. All of the charcters from the main ones, Chloe and Derrek, to Aunt Lauren were all well developed. It left you eagar to read the next book. The supernatural powers the kids are given are out of the norm too. Right now it is all about vampires, and there is a mention of them in the book, but they are not brought into the story line. Not that I would want to be a necromancer like Chloe, but it is cool.

I loved reading this book. I love the plot and characters of the story. I was hooked from page one. Once I got in the middle of the book I just couldn't put it down. I can not wait to read the next book.

I read this book so fast, even I can't believe how fast I read it. Not only does Kelley's writing shine in this book, you completely forget it's a YA book. Whatever you do, don't start reading it at night because you'll end up cursing at yourself at 3:30am forcing yourself to put the book down to get some sleep. Definitely a page turner!

Action grabbed me from first page! I read this in two days because I could not put it down. A teen girl discovers she is a ghost whisperer, but everyone thinks she had a mental snap. She is sent to a group home for troubled teens. Story just keeps getting better! Starting sequel right away.

Good book. Although I got this series mixed up with a completely different series I wanted to read and bought the wrong book, I read it anyway and enjoyed it. It was way more "teen" than I would have liked, but that's okay...I figured since I had it, I might as well read it. The only thing that disappointed me was the cliffhanger ending. Since I'm not sure if I'll proceed with the series, I don't know if I'll ever know how it turns out. But I'll keep the sequels in mind for when I'm up for a light read in the future.

Kelley Armstrong is a progeny when it comes to supernatural writing. Her books leave you breathless with their racy romances, the constant struggles, and the exciting stories. She does all of this effortlessly and you have no choice but to plummet without stumbling straight into her world.
She has created such a strong presence in all of her characters that everything about them makes them seem real! You get so caught up in their stories that you feel you are a part of them. I cannot say enough good things about Kelley!

Once again, Kelley Armstrong never fails to disappoint. She pulled me in with a plot that made me grip the book long into the night. The character was a little young, but Chloe seems beyond her years in this chiller series about necromancers, telepaths, half-demons, and sorcerors. A must-read for anyone.
I was told that this book was inappropriate and possibly bad. So I started this book with a little hesitation. All in all, I find that this book is very well written and I love it. I should have known that Kelley Armstrong wouldn't let me down. Chloe Saunders is a great protagonist.

Book One in Kelley Armstrong's The Darkest Powers Trilogy introduces us to a young girl who becomes spooked by seeing a spook. Chloe Saunders is a necromancer....but didn't know it until another teen in a group home that he was sent to told her. In this first story, we find that Chloe and the other teens residing within the home are supernaturals. Chloe's aunt is also a betrayer and hurts Chloe more than she ever imagined. By the end, Chloe's locked back up and will soon find out just how much of a betrayer her aunt is.

This book had a dark premise but the read itself didn't feel too dark and creepy. I liked the mystery behind the discoveries and I and eager to see where the story goes from here with the sequels. The only thing is I'm confused by the romantic vein that's been taken. I find myself wanting her to be with the boy everyone thinks is ugly. I'm not sure what's going to happen there. Guess I'll just have to read on...

I've come across this series several times and finally decided to give it a try. After finishing this first novel, I am hesitant to continue reading. The plot was too slow for my liking. I felt Chole's acceptance of her abilities to be unrealistic, and the way she asked Simon questions about other supernatural entities was too casual. I think that was my main problem with the novel - the supernatural side was too quickly accepted as the truth. Further, her complete trust in Simon and Derek, while maybe just an indication of her young age, was also questionable - especially considering she spent the first half of the novel in fear of Derek. I think if I was a young teenager, I may have enjoyed it more.

This is what YA books should be. Well written, believable characters... I read these as they came out so be warned, this book ends with a cliffhanger. The only Kelley Armstrong book to do so. Waiting a year for the resolution was frustrating. A friend of mine thinks this trilogy reads like a single book, and she's probably right... I can't figure out how to review this book separately for the other two, but I highly recommend them.

This book was definitely interesting. I like the idea of her being diagnosed as schizophrenic and sent away to a group home. However, some of the story seemed a bit much. I really didn't like how she re-animated the corpses or some of the other bizar things that happened. At times the book was too drawn out and could have been condensed a bit more. The ending made up for all of this though, and I am eager to start the next book.

I must admit I prefer her adult series much better than this one. The plots are more in depth, thought out and engaging. However, this is not an adult book; it's for young adults who these days have the shortest attention spans imaginable and should be commended for choosing to read anything over the many forms of electronic entertainment available to them. Even so, I think the ending of the book made up for it's other shortcomings. It was a slow started, but once Armstrong hit her groove the book flew by. Will definitely read book 2.

Compared to the other Young Adult books that I've been reading, I'd have to say that this is one of the better ones.

At first, I had a little trouble getting into the story. I don't know why, but I tend to stay within the fantasy genre and don't like to stray to much. I had read the inside cover and saw that it was about a girl that sees the dead and was interested. So imagine my surprise when I'm halfway into the book and it still seems more like a girl with a disease. I understand that the characters need back story and all that jazz. I'm just saying that it wasn't interesting for me at first.

Anyway, I thought that it got better later in the book. I wasn't really sold on the story completely, but I really liked the characters and was ready for the next book as soon as I was done with this one.
