I cried in the first 100 pages, and then again at the very end, and laughed with, cheered for, and worried about the characters for the rest of the story. Incredibly strong character development, with flaws enough to go around, and still you end up loving the good, hating the bad, and recommending the book to anyone who asks.

I couldn't get in to it the first 100 pages, fell in love with Capt. Jack Elliot the next 100 and cried for the last 100. I really enjoy learning about American history and since Greg is from this exact part of southern Arizona - the Arizona territories - I soaked it up. Silk sisters - you really need to read this one.

A great adventure in the pioneer days. I love this book. Bookclub was a 4.5. Everyone who passes on this book, will have the great feeling of just triumph!

This book was an amazing journey. It had everything I look for in a good story. There is adventure,real romance,true pain,suspense,loads of love and lots of laughter. A Taste of the Old West. Pg. 166: "It seems to me that any time there are men making a war, somewhere there are women and children at home waiting and worrying." Pg. 327: "Mama told me to make a special point to remember the best times of my life. There are so many hard things to live through, and latching on to the good things will give you strength to endure, she says."
