I am continuing to read books about the FLDS. This book was interesting in that it is the first one I have read on this topic that has taken place quite recently. The author was just a young girl and is still a young woman, about the age of my son. I think it is amazing that people like Warren Jeffs could get away with the things he did in the U.S. and Canada, while those of us on the outside are clueless. We know all about helping women and children in 3rd world countries but not our own.

This book was very interesting. It wasn't an "easy" read because you want to read every word to get all the details, not like in some fiction books you can skip over paragraphs and it won't matter to the overall affect of the book. I would recommend this book as a good read.

Creepy but wonderful and interesting. I learned so much from this book. It's amazing what people can follow and believe.

Pretty interesting, although it became hard to keep all the family members straight. It was a good change of pace from my ordinary reads, but definitely wouldn't be at the top of my list.

It's a book you read and can't believe that there are people out there like this. I couldn't put it down... it was very interesting learning about this sect that had been in the news recently. But it's also sad how this sect is destroying innocent lives. If for nothing else, read it to get educated on it.

If u know nothing about the FDLS, like I didn't, then this book is very interesting. You can't imagine the power that this man had over these people. How he changed the lives of so many people. The things that he did was so wrong, and looking on the outside of this, we wouldn't have stood for it for a minute. But these people actually were conditioned to believe everything he said. And if they didn't, they basically lost everything. This is a must read. Elissa Wall should be applauded for her strength, her courage, and her ability to stand up for what was right, and to help many women and child get through this.

It was a wonderfully woven autobiography, with enough detail to educate, but enough brevity to keep moving. On a completely unrelated note, it certainly opened my eyes to some of the facts behind some of the story lines on HBO's Big Love (Roman/Rulon, UEB/UEP, etc). Great read, and great maturity from a very young storyteller (Ms. Wall)! Definitely recommend it!

I really enjoyed this book. I learned some things about the FLDS, and I appreciated the mature voice of Elissa, despite all that she went through. She and I have a couple of things in common, and I hope I get to meet her someday.

The book was good, but it did not live up to the hype. If you want to read about abused women breaking away from Warren Jeffs and the FLDS, pick up Escape instead. It's a better read and more removed from the events, making the author more objective. Ms. Wall does pull at the heart strings, but her tale can seem a bit over the top at times.

Intriguing look into the world of plural marriages....funny, I thought I already reviewed this book. LOL A fascinating glimpse into the closed, secretive world of plural marriage as practiced by certain cults in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. One unnerving fact comes out in the book, namely, that in some of these communities, because local law enforcement officers are often members of these cults also, when the rare child bride manages to escape, rather than beginning an investigation, these same officers often simply return them to the communities from where they escaped, with no questions asked.

The women in this extreme sect know as the Fundamentalist Church of Later Day Saints were instructed to obey and "keep sweet". This is how power and control was exerted over women in this group. This why they put on the 'life is happy' front whenever interviewed for television etc. A very interesting read from a young woman with true spirit.

This is a brilliant and haunting book. It's the first one I've read that made me want to track down the author so I could thank her for her bravery and strength. Beautiful.

The content is educational and interesting, but the quality of writing is very lacking. Put down the book 40 pages from the end - could not motivate myself to read it any longer. Story was a bit too dragged out.

cult or religion....victim or product of an environment. Reads like fiction but non fiction. Wonderful book for psychology or literature curriculum. So Informative. An ignorant inside the box look at the world of a cult. Un-nerving views and distinction of non realities. A must read. Based on the true story of the Polygamous Sector raided last year.

Train. Wreck. Everything about this book is completely horrifying, and yet I can't look away. The writing is quite awful, but I do keep reminding myself it was written by a girl with very little real schooling who was only just past her teens when she wrote it. But worse is the entire FLDS situation. Absolutely horrifying how an entire populus can be so completely brainwashed by a few psychos.
