“The monk who sold his Ferrari” is a tale, which provides an approach to living a simple life with greater balance, strength, courage and abundance of joy. The fable format is a refreshing change from the tiresome listing of all the good things we could do for ourselves but do not. It makes the message being conveyed linger in our minds. Although most of the principles dealt with can be found in countless other books on self-help and spirituality, there is a difference in the way of Sharma has put things together.

story is only a sugary vehicle to get to his 10 points of self improvement. All good advice I think but could be delivered in one page of information. Perhaps without as much impact but I felt the story didn't add much to the impact.

a spiritual inspirational book with a difference...which never gives u a feel of being deliberately forced 2 choose the author's path...instead the author comes 2 the very ground level of applicability of what he says...he redefines n re-establishes the timeless treasures of ancient indian lifestyle....the reader never feels that he is being preached but mentored unbias...'never negotiate ur smile on the cost of ur success'...seems 2 b the basic voice of the book...the auth. vividly differentiates between'being successful' n 'being happy'....he asks everyone to quit the rat-race n to run his own race...methink its a classic n MUSTREAD to all...

Well am no self help guru or major authority on the subject, but this book kinda sucked, nothing new or so called inspirational as it seems to be hyped up to be?...if it was based on a true story (which I don't know..it's interesting perhaps ..but if it's made up it's just crap with no creative part on the autor to really inspire a reader to read on

That's my 2 cents

A nice fable about reachjing your destiny and fulfilling your dreams.Robin Sharma has potrayed his calssical best and has really made this book a fun to read.It never looks like a self-help book.It shows various methodhs for a better mindset with a summary at the end of each chapter. The book is about a very materialistic lawyer who suffers a major heart-attack in the court room and then goes to the himalyas in quest of restoring some peace in his life and his journey, experiences, learnings etc.Robin Sharma has really recaptured the reader's heart.Thnx.

One too many book catering to the ever-eager reader seeking the instant spiritual fulfillment. Clever title, clever marketing strategy (milking the title to death in the never-ending sequels).
The author is riding the spiritual horse screaming in the readers' faces cutesy keywords like life-balance, life of purpose, inpirational-leadership, step-by-step approach to lasting happiness.

Very nice money generating venture but please tell me something new. For all the above I can use Google.

i don't understand why people like this book so much!
this book is not for people who want to become successfull or create passion within them, but for those who are successfull but have lost there health, happiness etc.
Infact this book is not for Indian people , but for american people who live junk life.
"The monk in this book tells his
ex-colleague to become vegeterian and his colleague asks the monk >>CAN WE SURVIVE WITHOUT MEAT<<"
that was the last line i read from this book.

Its a pragmatic book. It suggests easy and simple steps to achieve all one wants just with a little bit of will power and concentration, which is required only at the beginning and which gradually takes the form of a habit. It grooves in a life of enthusiasm and energy into every small task that you might take up, emphasising on ’’procrastination’’. The presentation of all the wisdom in the form of a story redeems the book and makes it interesting to read.

A very motivational book to those who wonder how to organize and make their lives a little more meaningful.
It also mentions the issue of famous "the secret" which states the "law of attraction" i.e. attracting what is good and what one wants just by thinking positive and actually thinking of what that is one wants.
I will give a brief summary of the meanings of symbols presented:
Garden: Master your mind
Lighthouse: Follow your purpose
Sumo wrestler: Practice constant improvement
Wire Cable: Live with decipline
Stopwatch: Respect your time
Roses: Selflessly serve others
Path of diamonds: Embrace the present
My last comment: try reading it, its not long at all and worth it ...

this is a great guide book.its not something u just read in a flow and place it on a shelf! applying the practices mentioned in it is the true way of enjoying this book.we have all heard/been told about some/rather most of these principles mentioned here by people around us but keeping this manual by ones side and looking through its pages for help in times of crisis(its not unusual an event to see that when one has a tough situation, one often doesn't think/work the right way;rather get perplexed and more anxious!) or just to get back that lack of enthusiasm in daily life,it comes handy. the way the messages are laid out by the author keeps the reader from getting bored also. this book can give a new way of looking at life and living it. :)

I must admit the first few pages got me totally absorbed. However, the story gradually degenerated into spiritual, new-age nonsense. I thought I'd be patient and endure through it and hopefully it would take a turn for something more exciting or meaningful, but then it seemed like it was never going to happen, so I ditched the book about halfway through. Somehow, staring blankly at a rose, looking for its elusive heart for hours on end doesn't seem to me like a daily morning activity I'd enjoy.

So, I read this book after having read The Secret. The concept remains the same. The difference is, this book show techniques and strategies to apply the concept. However, the techniques are just one too many. It becomes very cumbersome too soon into the book. Each chapter starting from chapter 2 onward has at least 7 t0 10 techniques to learn. The book needs to be studied, as against read. One read is not enough, unless you make notes as you go.

All in all, a good book to study, if you will!

I had bought this book by reading its name as i am spiritual kind of person.I thought it must be a real story of a millionare who left all his luxuries and become a monk in search of his ownself. It issomewhat like that but its not a real story.I have not read the whole book yet but as i am reading it ,it is making me more calm ,more positive, more happy.we have a life full of work ,competitions.we have to fullfill our official and domestic work and at same time we require emotional satisfactions in our life.in this race we loose our peace of mind and do’nt know where we are going.we don’t give importance to our interests and just leave them aside.many times we are very disturbed but we have to perform our duties.each time when i am unhappy, not satisfied ,disappointed i analyse my conditions as it is given in the book and after it i become calmer ,positive.i am not saying book will heal you but giving importance to the practices given in the book can affect ur life for better.

I am not sure whether I will put this book in the category of self-help or philosophy but it does have a certain quality that makes it not boring. The language is plane and simple. The ideas are expressed in an organized and articulate manner and most of all it does not have any cheesy lines like "you can do it!!!!"

while the first couple of chapters leave a very deep impact (one that helps you finish the book), there really aren't any more ideas to talk about after that. needlessly stretched book, you almost feel like its a soap opera that must go on on the demands of economics

When it comes to self help books, I generally think that there are far too many of them out there but I guess each does at least a bit of good for someone. Barefoot Doctor (aka Stephen Russell) is one of my favourites, because of his amusing, user-friendly style of presenting some ancient principles. Robert Sharma is not quite in the same league, but nevertheless it was useful to remind oneself about the right path to follow.

Robin is consistantly touching the hearts of the readers with his thought provoking publications. This book , though I read when it was published, is still in my conscious and subconscious mind forcing me to think the value of Life and Happiness!! It require a lot of courage to leave the rich material possessions by an individual but I am sure that the reader is not going to be greedy after reading this book and always look for the happiness beyond material gains!! Kudos to Robin.

Definitely over-hyped. While most of you might disagree with this view- I found nothing unique or refreshing about the book.
With all due respect to the author and the huge fan base I would like to stress upon the fact that this view is perfectly my own.

Old curry-New dish! Nothing unique about it. If you are a thinker- you are knocking at the wrong door for sure. If you want someone else to come around and tell you what ll give you peace- go ahead.

The title had a monk and a ferrari which made me really curious and the psychological pricing pattern of the publisher was too much of a temptation for a price conscious customer like me. Had some serious hopes after reading the title and introduction at Delhi Book fair . This book is good in patches . The same old story on what is important in life in a new bottle. But there are some interesting quotes.

* Act as if failure is impossible, and your success will be assured. Wipe out every thought of not achieving your objectives, whether they are material or spiritual. Be brave, and set no limits on the workings of your imagination.

* Never be a prisoner of your past. Become the architect of your future.
You will never be the same.

* We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

* The quality of your life will come down to the quality of your contribution.

* The best time to plant a tree was forty years ago. The second best time is today.

* I am an artist at living - my work of art is my life. --- Suzuki

* The average four year old laughs 300 hundred times a day. The average adult - fifteen times.

* If youth only knew, if age only could.

* The universe favors the brave. When you resolve, once and for all, to live your life to its highest level, the strength of your soul will guide you.

* Nourish your spirit. Do the things you fear.
