I read the whole Little House series to a senior neighbor when I was ten. Tell me another SERIES of books your ten-year old would read, an hour at a time, to a neighbor after school several times a week.

My grandmother bought me the series when I was 12, and twenty years later I can still curl up with them on rainy days.You're never too big for Little House!

Whenever I read this book, as I have many times, I get caught up in the story and imagine myself as Laura, or as Ma. Laura Ingalls Wilder is one of my very favorite authors, and is so inspirational to me as she didn't write these books until she was in her 60's.

One of the biggest tragedies of my literary life was discovering my full set of "Little House" books had been donated to the library. A great series that every girl should read at some point.

I've read the whole series to my oldest daughter and am now reading with my second daughter. The only difficulty I have with these books is the racial insensitivity. For example LIW includes songs with lyrics about "darkies." Also, her description of the native americans the family encouters is ambiguos at best and and genocidal at worst. That being said there is much that is admirable and as someone interested in history it is a great way to familiarize my children with one account of our country's past.

Every little girl should read this series! It's so much better than some of the crud that is put out there for Juvenile readers now.

Very cute story about Laura and her family before she moved to the prarie. Amazing to read how people lived a long time ago.
