A jaded reviewer could cast this story off as a doctoring up of Hansel and Gretel. Having said that, Its very enjoyable relaxed reading .. a gradual path into a sinister adventure that options your mind into imagery; Some pausing of reading to evaluate your own imagery can enjoyably vary the scare factor. Doesn't dissapoint. For a Clive Barker invention, pscyhological thriller is a usual expectation... but this is a ride with a mellow slope yet all the fixins.

This is one of the first books that I read and absolutely fell in love with. This book is also the reason why I met my wife - but that's a story for another day.

I read this book about once a year... doesn't take me very long... i just enjoy the story. Usually read it early October, as it seems like a good Halloween story to me... kinda creepy in parts, but once you start reading, it's hard to stop!
